I was wondering if anybody knew if they were going to make a Core Duo version of the Sharp M4000 featured here:

I played around with this notebook at J&R and I was very impressed by the look, the 13 in widescreen, and the keyboard. It basically has everything I want, but unfortunately the processor is the previous generation.
Is there an upgrade in the works for this machine, if so, how long? Or is there an equivalent machine that has the look and feel of the Sharp but a Core Duo processor?

Another notebook to consider is the Asus W5F:

White casing, 13.3" display and Core Duo processor. -
Its a 12" the W5f, the W7j is 13.3" with a 7400 Go

I've been making that same mistake all day, mixing up the W5F and the W7J.

The w7j looks pretty hot, although I am reading pretty disappointing things about battery life...people are quoting 2.5 to 3 hours.
I was hoping for something around 4-5 hours without having a 5lb notebook due to extra batteries. I guess I'll wait for the next iteration. -
if you get the sony sz premium version, you can get 4-5 hours, i believe.

Well, I have both the MW70J (Japanese version of the M4000) and the SZ90 (Japanese version of the SZ series here in the US), and the SZ series is superior in every way.
My SZ suffered a blow on a plane (see my thread over in the Sony forum) and I've had to go back to using the MW70J as my main laptop, and I have to say the power difference is incredible. I didn't think the Sharp was underpowered, but compared to the Core Duo Sony with SATA drive, it is.
With the extended battery I get anywhere between 7 and 9 hours usable.
At the time I bought the SZ I was happy and wrestled with my decision. Now I don't even question it. Best laptop purchase yet and it's truly ended my wanderlust. I'm sure the new Core2Duo-based ones are a tad faster, and if you're looking at new notebooks, wait for the Core2.
