I have seen a loose keyboard wich belongs to a 6214W notebook. I noticed that there is a credit-card sized plastic sticker right above where the fan is. I have read several places that the 6214W air-ingestion is trough the keyboard and not trough holes under like most other notebooks. If it is to prevent the dirt and dust I hardly see the benefits of this since the small holes in the keyboard do the job just as well.

With the sticker present it will draw air from allmost the whole keybord. But if the notebook has been on for a good hour the air under the keyboard is quite heated. If this sticker is removed the fan will ingest cool air right into the vent.

Is this sticker just to prevent dirt and dust from accessing the fan or is this some kind of heat-shield?
What might happend is the sticker is removed?
Does other components in the notebook become so warm that the fan needs this sticker too cool them down? (I thought that the fan to the upper left is for the CPU and GPU only since the HD has it's own fan)

    Kenneth :)

That's kind of interesting. Do you have any pictures you might be able to post?

I'm sorry. No pictures for you guys this time. But I have got a reply from zepto.dk support on this matter.

    Here is what they wrote:
    Hej Kenneth.

My guess is that most of you don't understand anything of their reply *lol*

    Here is an english translation:
    Hi Kenneth

This plastic protection is seposed to be at the back of the keyboard to prevent the metal keyboard backside to come in direct contact with the fan. It is allso there to prevent short circuit with any other component nearby the fan wich is big enough to to tuch the metal backside of the keyboard. This plastic shall be there.

I thought you guys allso would like to know that all my shut-down problems when playing games vanished when I gave the fan a good wash. I lot of filth gathers up in the fan in no time.

Did you just blow it out with compressed air or actually take the notebook apart and manually clean it out?

Oh and does anyone no where is a good place to buy compressed air in the uk?

I think Maplin sells it for about 9 pounds a can.

I was tempted to go to my dads work at a car dealership to clean my laptop. They have compressed air generator for pumping up the tyres, then I realised that might not be such a good idea...

That's good to know. I'm a little confused by the design and restrictions on full-out cleaning imposed on their systems though.

I expose and clean my fan every 6 weeks or so. Not really dusty, but I try to keep it regular.

Here is a picture. This is not my computer. Here you can see the credit-card sized sticker wich covers the holes in the keyboard just above the fan.

So you have to remove your keyboard, in order to clean the fan propper?

How do i remove the keyboard?
I have had my 6615wd since september, and i allways try to keep it on a flat surface with as little dust as possible. But i know that eventually it will get to dirty and it will need cleaning.

I dont like the idear of paying zepto to do it, when i can do it just at well, and without having to send it in and wait x weeks before getting it back.

    Cheers

Just beware of the warranty implications of removing your keyboard. I admit that I'm a little bewildered by the design myself.

There is no way for them to find out if you have removed your keyboard anyway, no danger involved, and there is no stickers or anything.

There are 3 screws under under the computer, they are marked with little symbols of a keyboard. One of them is under the cover in the middle.
Turn the computer over and "slide" the keyboard towards the screen, the small clips will then pop up and the keyboard is then loose. You see where the cable is in the picture.

Its my computer on the picture kehax posted :)

I'm glad to hear that :). And thanks for the quick tips.

Zepto's official stand on the subject is that removing the keyboard will void the warranty and needs to be mentioned though in case others don't know about that.
