Hi everyone,
As a consumer who search everything possible about notebooks and resellers before buy, I've visit the ResellerRatings.com one more time, but not to see the ratings about this or that reseller, I went there to understand some curious facts...
The reseller rating is important, right? OK, everyone complains about InternetIShop, IBuyPower (I know it's a dishonest company) and others. I'll write some ratings here and, then, try to make an analysis of the result.
INTERNETISHOP
5.94 Pricing of Products and Services
2.50 Likelihood of Future Purchases
3.93 Shipping and Packaging
3.13 Technical Support
2.50 Return or Replacement
IBUYPOWER
7.78 Pricing of Products and Services
7.16 Likelihood of Future Purchases
6.49 Shipping and Packaging
4.81 Technical Support
5.63 Return or Replacement
POWERNOTEBOOKS <<-- Good one
7.39 Pricing of Products and Services
9.36 Likelihood of Future Purchases
9.49 Shipping and Packaging
8.85 Technical Support
9.53 Return or Replacement
Now, the interesting part:
DELL
5.00 Pricing of Products and Services
2.67 Likelihood of Future Purchases
4.54 Shipping and Packaging
2.05 Technical Support
3.41 Return or Replacement
HEWLETT-PACKARD
5.83 Pricing of Products and Services
2.92 Likelihood of Future Purchases
6.88 Shipping and Packaging
2.50 Technical Support
2.50 Return or Replacement
SONY STYLE (we can't trust too much, because it got only 7 reviews on the last 6-months)
2.92 Pricing of Products and Services
0.42 Likelihood of Future Purchases
0.00 Shipping and Packaging
0.00 Technical Support
0.00 Return or Replacement
So, what's the difference between buying from Dell and buying from IbuyPower?
1- You can't say it's because Dell has fewer reviews (so, the results would be more and more inaccurate, like Sony Style). Dell got 95 on last 6-month and 743 on lifetime. IBuyPower got 98 6-month and 302 lifetime, and PowerNotebooks got 114 and 734 reviews.
2- So, at least for the last three, results are more accurate, since there are a lot of reviews and a great variety of consumers.
SO: What's the difference between buying from IBuyPower and Dell?

well for one thing fewer people take the time to bother to write a review for something that is as they expected it, or even slightly better.
Personally I've never written a single review for any sites like that. Yet, I would recommend, from personal experience, newegg, tigerdirect, tigersurplus, mwave, hp shopping, action village, and many other online vendors I've bought from time and time again.

Congratulations on your 1000th post Quikster.
I agree. If the service is good, people take it for granted, and think no more about it.
If the service is bad, then people dwell on it and go and complain online.
However, those facts are still an interesting find. Many people will tell you to stay away from dell, while others are completely satisfied with them.
Like you said, I wouldnt put much concern into the sony rating.
Is www.portableone.com on there? I didnt see it on there.

It's good to know that Moderators doensn't know the difference between a review and a question...
First: As anyone with a minimal knowledge of dialectic should know, this is a question and not a review, since this is an advice gave by people who know enough of some subject (and, personally, I don't have any about reseller quality), and that is a way to ask someone about anything, and usually ends in a _question mark_ (please take a look at the original message).

Thanks anyway, Run1Track. It's a question about the resellers that I'm in doubt about to buy from, and not a synthesis of resellers, because if I planned to do so, you wouldn't see any, because I would need to put a lot of them. Sorry for not putting portableone, which I didn't know until now, and didn't consider in my question. Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll take a look at them before buying my laptop... You got the meaning of my message: I was wondering the reseller to go with, and asked for some advice ((...)"consumer who search everything possible about notebooks and resellers before buy"(...)"What's the difference between buying from IBuyPower and Dell?").
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Let's start again: I don't know where I should buy - but need to be one of those above - my laptop. Lots of people told me about the "quality" of Dell notebooks, but guess what? I saw that only on the Dell forums... That's why I came here, which seems to be independent, at least more than Dell forums. So, "what's the difference between buying from IBuyPower and Dell?". Thanks for the recommendations, and for any other one, fell free to include others.
PS.: I hope you have more luck on your 2000th post, and yes, I'll bother to ask about things of my interest...

I think the conclusion you can draw from here is that companies with already established reputations (e.g. Sony) aren't represented by 3rd party rating agencies (e.g. resellerratings), nor do they need to be. They already have visibility/customer awareness thru other channels. It's only the companies that don't have other established feedback channels that wind up on resellerratings.

ok I was pointing out the flaw in your logic:

You are basing a company that doesn't need reseller rating because they are nationally known and many people trust them and take good serivce for granted. Wheras, Ibuypower is an unknown thus more people post their experience good or bad. As for which to use its whatever you want. People here both have had good and bad experiences with each. Some swear dell is the best, others it sucks and the same with IBuypower. Dell is better known and seems to have a slightly better support line.
