I have been gaming and tasking on my current desktop for quite awhile now.. And was hoping that someone out there could give a ballpark estimate on how well the IFL90 I ordered will do vs my current desktop.
Current desktop:
AMD Athlon X2 3800+
2x512 Corsair XMS DDR1
PNY GeForce 7900GS
250gb 72(or 4)00 HD w/16mb cache
IFL90 (also featured in sig)
T7300 C2D
2x1gb DDR2
8600m GT
120gb 7200 rpm 3.0 gb/s
I am just excited because I personally have a feeling it will perform better.
Current games I play:
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
Counter-Strike: Source
Day of Defeat: Source
Supreme Commander
Most played currently around 1280x1024 or 1024x768, laptop has WSXGA+ but will prolly scale down to lower rez's.
Will I experience better gameplay, weaker gameply or about the same?

You could bench it. My desktop with AMD64 3700+, dual 6600gts and 1gig of ram scored a 2600 on 3dmark06. It was very high on 35mark05, I'm not sure why though, I think the IFL was 5500 or so while my desktop was 8500 or something.

I have the following specs:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX, 450 MHz / 1296 MHz
2048 MB DDR1
And I got a 4395 on 3DMark06.
I was hoping the Compal IFL90 would be a gaming upgrade but, unfortunately, it does not appear so. -
I would think that the laptops with a 8600m GT would be somewhat of a downgrade from desktops with the 7900GS and 7800GTX, since most people say that the 8600m GT performs slightly worse than the Mobile 7900GS. Still, the 8600m GT is a great laptop card

Just for kicks I tried to run 3dmark06 on my desktop machine. The software politely refused to run but it was also stifling an incoming bout of laughter and thinking:
Are you *kidding* me?!? Your hardware is so *ancient* that an abacus would positively be an *upgrade*! How dare you even *think* you could run my benchmarks on such *inadequate* hardware?! Oh, and I will steal your wife while you're not looking, you frigging *eunuch*!!!
I'm pretty sure any new laptop is going to be an upgrade for me.
