When I ordered my Zepto 6224 I selected 2GB DDR2, because at that time there were two choices. I didn't think of it then but it seems like it's just one stick of 2GB DDR2 Zepto Original... so if I want dual-channel I need 2GB DDR2 from Zepto??? It seems a bit weird when I ordered it that there was only two choices for RAM...

ohh darn... i don't understand. did u order 1x2GB stick from Zepto? that seems pretty good, as long as they didn't screw you on the price - you'll have more options for expansion?

    maybe i need more info.

I think he's worried that to get dual channel, do you need 2 identical rams. If so, I don't think that they have to be the same brand as long as they're the same specs, size and speed.

ok... but where can I buy DDR2 PC6300 for laptops with the same timings and specs as the zepto ones? I have never seen anyone sell PC6300 for laptops apart from Zepto...

    Additionally I don't need 4GB since I'm using 32bit OS...

DDR2-800 / PC6400 RAM is starting to be available. At Crucial, for example.

However, the current pricing is 50% to 100% more than PC5300 RAM.

PC6400 has lower latancy I think. That would benefit you even if you are downclocking it to 667mhz. Also maybe some of the laptops with desktop CPUs and desktop chipset might be able to use it.

I mean how much difference do the timings make? I'm not gonna use the laptop to do next gen gaming or anything. I'm not hardcore, so I stick to games like Rome: Total War or Galactic Civilizations, and the most graphically intense game I will play will probably Command and Conquer 3 at the moment. The most graphics intense game I'm looking forward to buying in the near future are Spore and Hellgate: London, even then I have a desktop which I will do the greatest share of gaming.

I don't think that extra €230 for 2GB of PC6400 over PC5300 is worth the 1-5FPS upgrade; actually how much faster is it with lower timings`?

Not much faster. 1-5FPS or about 5% is my guess too. Nothing that I as an everyday user would notice unless I benchmark. But some people are willing to pay for even the slightest performance increase, so companies like Zepto and Crucial have it available.. You made the right choice with PC5300.
