It got hit by what? Hopefully it had nothing to do with the touchpad problems you've been having ;).

It sounds like the LCD may have been damaged. Perhaps one of the tubes inside the LCD has failed due to trauma.

It got hit by a drunken idiot jumping on it.
Its really quite annoying right now but i guess i can learn to live with it... its sad really such a nice screen is ruined.
Is there anyway to fix this short of buying a new barebones?

Ouch. I am not sure whether or not an LCD can be repaired...but they can be replaced. Unfortunately the LCD is the most expensive component of a notebook.

Probably about 1/5 of the screen is darker than the rest.
I dunno maybe i'll learn to live with it.

I'm pretty sad to hear about it myself. Good luck with sorting it out :).

Make the drunk pay for it?

You might be able to fix the backlight(s) to cure your problem, I'm not sure how these screens actually have the backlight configured but I know its not the traditional. Maybe someone else has more in-depth knowledge for this particular screen technology (Donald? Chris?) and could help decide if that is viable... I know I've repaired LCD's that were less lit on the right or left side... (dual scan screens often had dual backlights).

LCD's don't normally get fixed... just replaced... unfortunatly they are such sealed and micro-technology based that it would be to costly to fix one.

    Good luck!

ya making him pay for it is the plan... No software out there to make the right side of my screen brighter? How much would you figure would it be to replace the whole screeN?

2nd option would be to hit the drunken idiot :)

Or you could try to ask at some websites that claim to be able to fix lcds , they replace ccfl and other parts , google it out .

You could ask your reseller how much a new screen would cost...that'd probably be the best way to get an idea of the cost. I think they're in the neighborhood of $400, though.

Do you have the HEL80 WSXGA+ matte screen? If so, it utilizes Samsung's LGP technology--lighting from the corners inward.

That one might cost more, but your reseller would be able to give you an exact cost.

How does someone jump on a poor defenseless notebook?

    Worst case=replace the screen.

    Best case=repair the screen

Contact your dealer to get an RMA to send it in to get diagnosed and a quote for repair.
