Hi :>) Just got my Averitec last nite... all happy and excited to have it... and have been up All Night fighting with it. Here's the deal...

Have 2 pc's now, the new Averitec and 1 yr old Dell

Have Dialup Internet (but just ordered up Directway Satellite)

The Averitec refuses to go online. Refuses.

The error it keeps giving is Unable to Connect to Remote Computer.

WHY, is beyond me. Have tried everything. Tried all the diagnostic stuff. The "test" shows that there is no line connected to the modem to dial out on. No way. I tried the very same plug that the Dell uses, have tried several different phone cords... and there is only one place on the Averitec to plug one in to the Modem, so... the Plug is fine, the cords are fine, and they are securely plugged in too...

Looked on the Net for help by typing in the topic of the error message, tried those possible things listed... nothing. Have deleted the "new connection" and redone the whole thing... several times... I know it is right... just like on the Dell...

So should I just give up and take (THROW) this little cutie back to the store today?? I am so sad!!! I hope someone here will have a new idea to try... I don't know tho...

Saying to just wait until the Satellite connection is done and don't worry about it won't work.. because if THIS is some freaky glitch in this particular one, what could be down the road when its too late to take it back? EEK. Please tell me what you think...?

    Thanks...

    Boo

[:0] RESOLVED! [ :)] Please don't waste your time on me here... LOL I actually found a 24/7 Toll Free customer care phone number on their website... and now I feel sooo stupid! But since I whined here, I need to tell you what it was in case another DUHmmy like me has this happen LOL

Ya know I SAW that little plastic door on the other side of the notebook, and opened it and it only opened a little way... I even tried to wiggle the end of the phone cord into it, but it didn't seem to wanna go... and I thought, if I force this in there and break something, then they will never take it back! So... I figured that could not be the phone cord jack... I was so used to the straight-on and very snug jacks... (new to notebooks, are they all like that?).

So end of misadventure... oh geez... I could have slept last night... LOL Up all night for nothing futzing around... LOL

Glad I don't have to take it back, I do love it [ :)]

    Thanks for listening!

    Boo

glad your issue is resolved here! I assume you were plugging the phone line into the ethernet port of your Averatec instead of the proper modem port then right?

May I ask why you're still taking it back when you said you had resolved the modem problem??
