    Hello guys,

Recently I have replaced by nVidia 8600 (after baking it twice) with a Radeon 3650... much happier.

I think I will forego the CPU upgrades, as far as I know only merom processors are compatible; I have a T7500 and a highest available merom (T7800?) isn't much of an upgrade...

So what I am looking for now is a display 15.4" with a resolution of 1920x1080. Anyone know if there is a compatible display? Preferably matte. If not, are there any upgrades for a display possible for the FL90? And if not, any dirty hacks possible? :p

    Well. I have several FL90s - one with a T7300, one with a T7500, but also one with a T9(3/5)00.

The fact that I do not know should tell you that it is laying around for a while, it also had a dead 8600M GT.

But there are some that where shipped with Penry cores, I think it was the "newer" one. There was a revision done in early 2008. If yours is build after that, you might go with a Penry ... all at your won risk!

Check this forum, there are some discussions about that topic ...

    Regarding the display - no idea, I went for 1440 x 900 FL90 display to replace my 1280 x 800.

    Cheers

I just checked - its a T9300, and the motherboard says:

    Revision 1A 2007-05-03

I might get a HD 4650 which I will plug-in right away. Maybe I find more details on the mainboard then.

    Cheers

    My display is a 15.4" 1680x1050 matte.

I'd like a full HD 15.4" 1920x1080 matte if it is possible. As far as I know as long as the connections are the same it should work right? If so, how can I find one with those same connections?

Also, if I have a revised motherboard... it would be able to run a T9300 or T9500? Do you know about long term reliability? Even if it works it might cause damage in long term, I'm not sure.

For now I'm more interested in a full HD display. I'm not much of a gamer apart from Civ4... and I run linux 95% of the time, hence a CPU upgrade isn't something I really need yet. But a full HD display would be a complete winner if anyone knows of a compatible display.

Sorry, no idea about displays nor about long-term problems when running a Penry processor - I got that FL90 on ebay as it had a video card failure.

I have barely used it, so I can't tell ...

Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Good luck

    Hello 2all
I replaced my CPU on x9000 in compal FL90 two years ago, and it's still work perfectly.
Also I did mod with PLL and I can overclock it through setFSB, but i can't increase multiplier higher than 14x (stock) through any program
there is x9000 on ebay - intel x9000 | eBay

I have some ideas about replacing display - It may be not work on 1920x1200 because of non-dual(link) LVDS interface, so I think the highest resolution is 1680x1050

and now i have some troubles with 8600m GT - it sems to die ... so pitty
do i right that no bios update required for installing 3650? and it can installed in both configurations with 512 or 256 GDR3?

Yes, Radeon HD Mobility 3650 in either 512MB DDR2 or 256MB DDR3 will work with no BIOS modifications. The only thing I had to do was heat up my 8600M GT to get the standoff bracket which is glued on so I could place it on my Radeon card. But I am not sure if the DDR2 version has thermal sensors or not. I can't get a reading on it, but I saw somewhere the DDR3 version someone was able to get temps from it. I have a DDR2 version installed now but I fould a DDR3 version which I am going to replace it.

Do you know if your motherboard is the Santa Rosa refreshed? I think those can handle X9000 and Penryn CPUs. The original mobo can also handle it but there is no thermal sensor. I may get a X9000 if it really works.

my FL90's mobo assembled in june 2007, so it seems an ordinary Santa Rosa.
I sow that from BIOS version 1.16 was resolved some problems with thermal sensor, and i now use version 1.18 with this processor without any problems.

Oh ok. I might give it a shot then. I am running BIOS 1.18 as well. How do I find out when mine was assembled? I think it says it on the motherboard?

Yesterday, I ran CoreTemp on my FL90 with the T9300 - it had a temperature of 12 degree on idle - that can't be right, right? :)

I think it is still on 1.12, so I might upgrade the BIOS - the other two I have a running on 1.18 already.

And yes, the date of manufacturing is engraved into the mainboard - you might even see it when removing the keyboard, don't know right now.

    Cheers

Yea, someone said they bricked their FL90 running a Penryn processor. Another person said they successfully ran X9000. I read somewhere else on this forum they ran a Penryn and it fried the mobo a few days later. So, I think it is too risky. However, I did order a couple crucial 4GB DDR2 RAM sticks so I will see if I can get 8GB RAM working. They should arrive on Wednesday so I'll let you know.

Also, I got an E-Mail back from Compal stating that 1920x1080 resolution won't be compatible with the FL90 and pointed me at Compal notebooks to upgrade to... ;]~

Ok... 8GB officially works even though Intel states the chipset in FL90 is only good for 4GB. I post a screen shot with Control Panel >> System and also CPU-Z.

Also, replacing the nvidia 8600 with the radeon 3650 increased the windows rating from 4.6 to 5.1. My radeon 3650 ddr3 card is on the way and i'll post the new
rating when it comes. Not sure how much of a difference it will make but i'm surprised the radeon raised my rating that much. I'm thinking it will be 5.3. Also the 8GB
of RAM won't probably give much more performance since it is still DDR2 667. But I do know windows is using all of the RAM because 27% is in use right now and it has
    5131MB cached.

An SSD is a nice upgrade if you want performance - I am not sure if you can get another SATA hard drive into the ODD bay ... might work ... not sure.

yea that is true. I think SSD would be really nice upgrade. I think it would be possible to put one in ODD bay, maybe using parts from an external 2.5" Sata-II case and customizing some way to mount it to the exterior frame.
