Hey,
I recently bought a zepto 6625WD, its been a week I have had it now but I think I might have that temperature bug thing with zepto computers, although I am not sure.
When my cpu temp is at 47 C I can hear the fans, they are not as loud as when you turn the laptop on but I can still tell they are on.
My fan doesnt switch off or on like it should, shouldnt it??
When playing games after a while the fans start to kick in and become quite loud which is normal
But I dont like the fact that when I am on my laptop at night It makes significant noise, during the day its not as loud but its still easily detectable
Is this the temperature bug or am I just paranoid
I have reset the bios but still its as loud as it was, should I try updating the bios to the one provided on the ftp site or not??
If you require more information like cpu clock, speeds, temperature or whatever let me know and Il do so
Thanks in advance

AFAIK the new bios is only some ram support thing. I dont know if it has any other changes

If you are seeing a CPU idle temperature of around 47C then I don't think you have the temperature bug which has affected the 6x24W series. That bug causes the system to report a temperature of over 70C and consequently running the fan quite fast.
47C is probably just above the threshold for the fan to go off and, in your case, you have a powerful GPU contributing to the heat (I don't know how good the idle power management is for the 8600M GPU). You could see whether the system runs slightly cooler if you select the battery operation power profile.
The other possible factor contributing to heat is whether the CPU power management is working properly. At the moment the functions to put the CPU into a low power state are missing from the 6x24W series (a BIOS update is awaited) but I don't know if this also applies to the 6625WD. I lso don't know whether Zepto will enable the low power mode when the computer is on mains power or just when running on battery. I hope it will be the former because we all want ours computers to be cool and quiet when they are not working hard.
I believe that the new 6625WD BIOS contains various improvements and I would recommend applying it. Follow the PDF instructions in the same folder as the BIOS update.

Right now I am in the process of downloading some demos so will update the bios once they are done
My cpu right now is at 47 C according to speedfan
core 0 at 30C
core 1 at 32C -
I am about to perform the bios update, is there anyway I can backup the bios I currently have incase something goes wrong??

The BIOS hardware / upgrade software does not include a backup facility. Normally, the previous firmware updater is also available on the Zepto website in case you want to go back but I see that there's only one firmware available for the 6625WD.
Rene may be able to explain how the updater works, but you create a bootable CD which contains a small program and the new BIOS firmware. The update is loaded into RAM and error checked before starting to run. The only thing which can cause a bad flash is a total power failure which is why it is recommended to have the battery in and run on mains power during the update (which only takes a minute or two). Since the update has its own program you aren't running the risk of Windows sneezing during the update.

applied the update,
noise seems the same so I guess its not a temperature bug, but now that I check my temperature, i get this
65C
core 0 = 31C
core 1 = 33C
where as before the update I had
47C
core 0 = 30C
core 1 = 32C -
is the previous bios available for download somewhere or not
-
I dont get it how it can be that 1 and 2 is just above 30C, but the cpu temp is 60C ???
-
That is what speed fan says, do you want me to try some other software for monitoring ??
Tried Notebook Hardware Control
This is what it says
Cpu Temp 62C
TZ00 50C
TZ02 48C
TZ01 62C
Core 0 44C
Core 1 45C -

The CPU has several temperature sensors.
Give the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool a try.
John -
Tried that, I think its completely off
Its saying my processor is a pentium M with maximum frequency 1994Mhz, when its rather a core 2 duo with 2000Mhz frequency
CPU 0 digital temp = 47C at 1200Mhz frequency
CPU 1 digital temp = 48C at 1200Mhz frequency
and ACPI Thermal Zone Temp @ 50C -

For my T7300 under light load, TAT gives:
ACPI Thermal Zone Temp @ 52C
CPU 0 digital temp = 46C at 1200Mhz frequency
CPU 1 digital temp = 46C at 1200Mhz frequency
Some temperature reporting applications read the ACPI thermal zone while others read the digital temperatures. RMClock is one of the latter.
I've got some interesting DTS info from TAT. See the difference for the two cores. I'm going to reset the BIOS and try again.
John
PS: I now attach version 2 of the DTS info after a BIOS reset. The settings are now more consistent. I think we are seeing the temperature bug (I'm using BIOS -004).
PPS: There's no problem with the Intel TAT seeing the CPU as a Pentium M. That's the core of the Core series CPU's. It as proved to be a more durable architecture tan Pentium 4.Attached Files:

I wonder what was the bios version before Z15N008, (the one which 6625WD shipped and delivered in August comes equipped with).
Because with 008 I am getting cpu temp of 60C whilst before it was 47C -

There's no change log for the 6625WD BIOS, but maybe they changed the temperatures at which the fan operates / changes speed. They did that on the last 6x24W BIOS.
Rene can clarify - this is his territory.

I'd like to see the change log aswell !

I haven't received a full changelog from our BIOS team, but the changelog will be up as soon as i have that.

Similar reports here,
Currently using Notebook Hardware Conrol
CPU Temp at 67
TZ00 50C
TZ02 54C
TZ01 70C
Core 0 49C
Core 1 47C
*** These numbers represent normal system voltage,
laptop is currently NOT undervolted. -
well obviously I dont have the temp bug cos my fan turn off, and its off the majority of time when browsing and such

Hehehe, lucky you!
Perhaps it's time I put the ol' laptop on a window sill
and cool it the natural way?!
UPDATE: Not entirely related but worth mentioning,
we have a Zelman Laptop Cooler on our 4200, just tested
out on the 6625wd, here's the results:
CPU 65/62
HD 37/32
(before and after numbers)
Do I have the temperature bug or not
