I'm looking to get an inexpensive laptop to be both a portable DVD player (for plane trips) and also a small/light laptop for light work while on vacation.

Does the 3220 fit the bill on this? The battery is quoted at 3 hours, has anyone just tried to play a DVD on it? How long did the battery last doing just that (and with the wireless net turned off)

My 3225HS gets about 2 hours and 15 minutes of just-sitting-there time. You might be able to get through one DVD this way, but if you really want to do some DVD watching in the car or plane I suggest you get a car/plane adapter like I did, off ebay. Only costs something like $25 shipped (Buy It Now), and so far it hasn't failed me. The auctions will say "for xxx brand laptop" but they're all the same unit (it will come with several plug-ends to use). This is an example link of the exact unit I bought:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42167&item=3495235201&rd=1

This one says it's for FUJITSU but it's the model I have, and it works with my Averatec 3225HS. It also comes with the airplane adapter (I don't fly much so I haven't tested that out yet).

Also Averatec only sells one AC adapter for all their laptops so I can assume that if the adapter I bought works with my 3225HS that it will work with any of their laptops.

I never fly First Class, so the airplane kit is useless to me. Coach doesn't have power outlets.

maybe helpful, to first rip a movie or two to your hard drive. should save some battery life. i have no problem making it 2 hours with this. usually tells me i have about 50 minutes left.
