Just wondering if the Whitebook barebones comes with integrated tv tuner? I assume not since its barebones, but XoticPc doesn't give you the option to add one when customizing, like the other notebooks do. thx

No it does not include an intergrated tuner. It does have an available slot though where you could install one.

This is likely a very stupid question and I feel slightly embarrassed for even asking it, but how do you know if you have a tv tuner? Like Jmna said, xotic doesnt give you the option and I don't think I had the option either. I have something on the back of my system for coaxial right next to the dc in. Just wondering.

Your system is capable of supporting a tuner, that's what the coax is for. The A312 tuner is what ocz was supposed to be getting for this chassis as an option but to date has not. Last we inquired they said there were supposed to be getting them in. There is a second mini-PciE slot under the keyboard with an antenna connection for the tuner. The drivers for the tuner are actually on the ocz OEM install CD.

Thanx for the info. I've never used a tuner before so would someone mind just giving me a rundown of what exactly I would be able to do with. Like record tv shows and stuff or something?

Also, as dondadah88 inquired, where would one go about purchasing this?

Yes it will function within media center or with other available software. Record, timeshift, view, etc.

Just do a search for this tuner:

I'd say it's about a 5 to install a TV tuner. For details on how to, just search for ichime's post with the link to the service manual.

I started to take my system apart but couldnt get the palm rest or keyboard off and I didn't want to force it and end up breaking anything. I'm positive I got all the screws. Will have to check out that service manual.

    EDIT:

Just looked through the manual and decided to just let it be for now. No sense in opening it up if I don't need to.

I had that same experience when trying to access the mini PCI-E slots. You don't need to remove the palmrest, just the keyboard. The thing with the keyboard is that there is a screw holding it in place at the bottom (in addition to the one on top that would normally be under the hinge cover). You'll have to remove the bottom plastic/cover that covers the GPU, CPU, mem, etc. to access it. The screw is silver and it's right next to the GPU fan (between the GPU fan and the northbridge). It looks like it holds the motherboard in place, but that's really holding the keyboard.

Once you remove that, then remove what you would remove normally to remove the keyboard and voila! The mini PCI-E slots will be under the aluminum door on the right of the keyboard space.

It took me about 15 minutes to remove the keyboard when I added wifi. The manual has you remove a bunch of unnecessary screws and parts. It's rather simple just make sure to remember where the different length screws belong.

It really isn't as hard as the manual makes it out to be.
