I notice that my 3150 does get hot!!! It scares me, so, when I can I prop it up on stuff so more air can get under there, thinking that might help?? I have read in a few places that machines getting hot shortens their lifespan a lot... and I am wondering if everyone else's does too and what if anything they do about it? Are some worse than others about getting hot?

    Have a nice week........

I use mine at work pretty much all day and it is warm but never HOT, but then again my definition of warm may be different to some people, also I have heard people complain about how loud the fan is on the Averatec, I can not even hear mine when it is on.

Hi Brian...... It got hot from the get-go since I brought it home. It doesn't burn me or anywhere near that hot, but enough that it is not comfy and I worry about the thing overheating... So I prop it up on stuff so more air can get under there... lol

Meanwhile I just got a Sony V505EX that has virtually no fan noise at all, doesn't seem to get very warm at all let alone hot, but the HD makes little static-y sounding rattling-popping sounds that are annoying... but the Averatec doesn't make any HD sounds at all!

    Heh! Go figure! [ :D]

The Sony is a Centrino and costs almost double. It should be quiet, cooler and better, just like my other Dell 8600. But I saw in other thread that the 3100 series' owners have been opening the laptop and remove the sticker over the heat sink, apply cooling gel and it runs cooler....... I don't know if it applies to the 3225HS too.

Ok, in that case I wouldn't bee too worried. It's not abnormal for a unit to get very warm like that.
