Doesn't this Notebook Cooler make the IFL90 hotter?

    Hi,

At the moment, I am looking for a notebook cooler. I think I prefer the Zalman ZM-NC1000, which extracts cool air from the sides and blows this cool air upwards, so the bottom of the IFL90 is provided with cool air.

I am afraid, however, that this worsens the cooling performance of the IFL90 since ( I think) hot air exhausts are located at the bottom side of the IFL90. So these exhausts can't blow out air because they are obstructed by the air flowing out of the Zalman.

    I have three questions:

    1. Are the hot air exhausts of the IFL90 located on the bottom side of the laptop?
    2. Does the Zalman hotten the laptop because of this?
    3. Can the Zalman be used on a bed or another soft surface?

I hope some of you have experience with a Zalman Notebook Cooler, the IFL90 or maybe even the combination of the two. :) If you know the answer to one of these questions I'd really like to know it.

I never thought of that, I'd like to know which way airflow travels on the Sager/Compal as well.

That notebook cooler sure looks cool, but the website you linked to is Korean so chances are if you buy it there it'll come from Korea...which'll take a while. :(

I'm fairly certain that the IFL90 exhaust port is at the rear of the notebook, next to the battery.

It'd be pretty silly of them to put the exhaust on the bottom, since the airflow would be obstructed by just about anything you put it on, be it a desk, a cooling pad, or your legs.

And yet, Dell decided to boldly go where no other brand had gone before: in a spurt of major silliness they put the exhaust fan on the Inspiron 600m on the bottom. Thanks, Dell! As you said, the airflow is obstructed by just about anything.

This review (translated from french, google style) has a few nice pictures of a re-branded compal ifl90 opened up so you can see how the cooling unit works. The pictures are right at the bottom of the page by the way, I nearly missed them the first time I read it.

It does seem that the air intakes are on the bottom and the exhaust on the back, one other thing I noticed was the heat pipes go mighty close to the battery.. but I guess that's hard to avoid in such compact machines.

Great pics, especially the RAM. I was curious how they would fit the two RAM sticks, good thing it's all in one easy to open slot instead of under the keyboard like some Dells do.

I see compal still makes the same f..... stupid mistake (or maybe it's an intentional, 'bug' a so called feature, huh? :/ eh people who buy them compals are usually experienced enough anyway and whoever opens up their notebook is him/herself to blame so I don't get this as a move to possibly protect unwitted users) by putting the graphics card heatsink in some impossible to reach place, causing whoever wants to place anything better than the crappy default paste on it to unzip the whole box.

    argh!

apart from that, very nice :) finally the northbridge gets a heatsink too :) or is it something else ( http://www.laptopspirit.fr/wp-content/uploads/new/pict0075.JPG here, just under the cpu) ?

anticipating a full disassembly guide as like for the EL80 :)

    cheers!
