Temporairly removed .inf - working a bug or 2 out![]()
***NOTE: DO NOT USE MOBILITY MODDER WHEN USING THIS .INF*** THIS WILL INSTALL THE DRIVERS WITHOUT MOBILITY MODDER, BUT IT DOES FIX THE RESOLUTION PROBLEM CAUSED BY MM***
to anyone interested.. If you have tried to install the 8.11 Drivers, and notice that your screen no longer scales and "Fits to screen" when gaming..or notice that if you try to change desktop resolution, it letterboxes your screen isntead of stretching.. Here's a personal modded .inf for install with the 8.11 Series.
If 8.11 is already installed, copy this file to your extracted ATI install directory something like "c:/*/ati/support/8.11folder/packages/drivers/display/lh68_inf/ch_70230.inf"
It will prompt you to replace that file, say yes. Now, don't run the catalyst install again. Just go to device manager and your Display Adapter.. Update video driver, and then use have disk method to locate the new .inf - install, and like with mobility modder just tell windows to install even though it's not signed. You only need to install on one card and it applies to both.
If doing a 8.11 install, or upgrade.. you can replace the .inf before running the install..however(and Im working on this) when it finishes installing it shows as the HD3870 x 2 - although I didn't include that in the driver install file. So, please continue with the aforementioned process using "Have Disk" method.
Now, 8.11 drivers are installed, you can scale games and desktop resolutions, with same previous tweaks including CrossFire enabled and forced, and FarCry2 still sucks with ATI drivers.![]()
Download 8.11 Vista 64bit .inf *link temporairly removed*
If someone wants 32bit version, lemme know. PM me and I'll set it up.
Personal Experience Side Note:
By the way, you can disable AI and still have crossfire. I've found that the ATI control panel settings can have MAJOR results upon performance. I do not recommend AI "Advanced" however Standard seems ok..sometimes. FC2 still a pain with these 8.11 drivers - MipMaps Performance or Quality settings seem to net good gains - Turn off VSync(force if you have to) - leave DXT Enabled. Allow Applications to handle Anti-aliasing, and anisotropic filtering and disable Adaptive AA.
+rep if ya love me, hate me, or just appreciate me.![]()

so with your modded .inf, I don't have to modded 8.11 driver and only install normal driver from ATI site, right? Will it run well like old driver?
If it had done, +1rep with you.. Ewrecked -
I had the same issue too when installing mobility modders (the resolution scaling issue). I'll definitely try this and get back to you.
-
It will run the 8.11 driver, with all the 8.11 tweaks and settings. The only difference being is that I enabled the video modes of the 8.10 drivers, including fit-to-screen. Also, I enabled auto-force crossfire. For whatever reason, it was disabled in the 8.11 inf. And yes, download the ATI 8.11 Driver, replace the .inf and then run the install. It should do the rest. Check Device manager after, to make sure it says ATI Radeon Mobility 3870 - not 3870x2. If for some odd reason it shows the x2, then do have disk method and point it to the .inf - Should work just fine
-
Ok, I tried installing via the Have Disk method, but same problem: it doesn't scale to full screen. But, it also says 3870 x2, which is odd considering what you said in the last two sentences. It maybe older drivers messing up my install, so I'll clean up the drivers and redo it again.
-
and then if you have the 3870x2 problem.. u need to use have disk after the install. Your cat drivers are there..now you need to install via have disk method. Im working on resolving this. Heck, you could just use have disk from the get-go. I dont know why, I assume it scans and uses the 3870x2 which was the previous driver. I gotta do more research. But, installing via device manager and .inf have disk will work perfectly.

I've installed your modded .inf by have disk method. It ran perfectly but I've another problem with 3dmark06. It show "My laptop doesn't have the feature support sm2.0" so when I tried to run I must selected game tests by myself. after I selected game tests, it ran like it doesn't in xfire mode. fps in game1 test drop so much. and then I went back to my old driver
-
lol..ok, that's good to know. I never tried 3dmark. Sorry. Lemme remove it, for now.
What driver are you running?
-
stock driver from my builder (same as ocz site driver)
