Hi my nephew was given this laptop for passing his 11+ exams this year. He only uses it to play games and is not allowed yet to connect to the internet on it etc.
I used this laptop for a few days when i was without one i have it with me right now. This laptop only has one single stick of 1GB of ram in it. I have 3 1GB's sticks at home and i would like to upgrade the ram for him to 2GB if possible. At the bottom of the laptop i can only find 1 memory slot. Is this all that this laptop has? It seems like one would need to buy a 2GB stick to upgrade this laptops memory.

I read somewhere online someone suggesting that someone should just buy a a memory stick to upgrade this laptop they seemed to imply that this laptop had two memory slots.

I am wondering if there maybe another memory slot or if it is just has the single one? If it has another memory slot please could someone let me know where it is.

On another note this is quite an ok laptop. The trackpad buttons are quite stiff but it has an excellent keyboard decent sound and is pretty good value for money for £200 odd pounds. Battery life is pretty dire though at 1 hour 20 minutes wifi web browsing with lowered brightness.

EI Systems seems to be yet another DSG label. The support page is here. The specs here say the RAM is 2 x 512MB which is a little inconsistent with your observation of 1 x 1GB RAM.

I would suggest that you use CPU-Z to check the current RAM. I'm not sure if CPU-Z will correctly identify an empty slot.

I see three RAM possibilities: (i) There is only one RAM slot (this is a budget machine); (ii) there is one RAM slot plus some RAM fixed on the motherboard; (iii) there is a second RAM slot underneath the keyboard.

If you need to go the 2GB route, play.com is one of the least expensive sources (prices include postage) but, at the moment, this module at 7dayshop is probably the best bargain (£17.99 + £3.95 P&P).

Hi John thanks for your helpful post.

You pointing out the discrepancy in the ram made me go and look at the laptop again and i discovered that it was in fact an E System 4213. I thought that it was a 3213 as they both use the same processor and they look pretty much the same.
Here are the specs. I am tending to think now that there maybe only 1 ram slot.

OK. Unless CPU-Z (SPD tab) shows a second, but empty, RAM slot, I would suspect this model has just one RAM slot. The SIS chipset should support a 2GB DIMM module. Borrow one of the 2GB modules out of your notebook and see how much difference it makes.

I have come up against the same thing too.

I had to get an 'emergency' laptop, just to tide me over for a few months because my work one died (after a good few years of service). However, it's pretty slow, so thought I'd get some more memory.

Since the manual is next to useless, and is missing chapters, I ran the Orca memory scanner to see what I would need, duly ordered it and went to install it a couple of hours ago. But guess what? It's absolutely not the module that's needed...and what's more, there is definitely only ONE slot.

According to the TechGuys site, this model has two slots, which take DDR - but it's all a big fib! LOL! I now have to return the wrong module and order a 2GB one. Or maybe I'll just use a flash pen to speed things up! :(

There are two slots at diiferent places, one my one [3213], there was an empty slot on the back and a 1 gig under the keyboard. 3213 can only support up to 2 gb so i had to take the old one out to put a 2 gb in,

to lift the keyboard u have to take out the k/b screw in the back and then pry the keyboard off the tabs, there will be a compartment underneath there

Wat i want to ask is wat processors does ei system 3213 support other than the celeron processors
