Are you tired of having to game at Native resolution? Think your OCZ video drivers should perform better? These drivers have been modified to allow all resolutions to scale fullscreen, Mobility Modder has a bug which won't allow that to happen. Also, performance tweaks have been added, and it's a constant work in progress. So, download..and enjoy!
*** This will *not* work on any other system than the Mobility HD3870's - All other GPU support has been removed ***
These modified drivers also unlock the theatre options in CCC under AVIVO, as well as some additional CCC performance options not typically available.
These are the full ATI Catalyst install packages, so no other downloads will be necessary unless you want to Modify your own driver using Mobility Modder.
This is a work in progress..so bear with me as I tweak it to your likings. Links below will allow for downloading both modded, and non-modded drivers.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME INSTALLING THE MODDED DRIVERS UNLESS YOU'RE DOING A CLEAN INSTALL - REMOVE ALL REMAINS OF YOUR CURRENT ATI DRIVER/SOFTWARE - Here's a simple method to clean install ATI Drivers.
Simple procedure. Check it out.
1) Open Device Manager and Uninstall Old Display Adapter Drivers, also check the box "Delete the driver software for this device" when prompted to uninstall the display drivers.
2) Open Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and remove the ATI Technologies Software Suite - device manager may have done so, but double check.
3) Reboot, and tap F8 like nutzo on boot to enable Safe Mode option
4) From Safe Mode admin account, check to see VGA Graphics adapter properly installed.. if so see step 5. If not, repeat step 1.
5) Run Driver Sweeper and check the ATI Display box, then Analyze & Clean..I usually do it a 2nd time just cause. There should only be one entry after you run it the 2nd time, and it's a registry entry. Ignore that.
6) Reboot - Check to see that Standard VGA Appears in Device Manager - It's ok if Vista reports they're not functioning properly. If VGA appears, move to step 7 and if not, move to step 3.
7) Now, unzip the file package you downloaded.. run setup.exe under the main Driver Folder and install as "Custom" making sure the CCC is set to install, and also the Video Driver is recognized and will install. I disabled WoW and Cat Registration on my install..no need for the bloatware.
8) Should install clean, and smoothe..and when finished prompt you to reboot. *ta duh*
Hopefully this clears up most of the part where I stress a clean install.

E-wrecked's Bored Mod Drivers:
VERY simple. You will need to do this as a clean driver install, and I cannot stress this enough. If you're not doing a clean install of these drivers, then you may have problems such as BSODs or lack of resolutions, or horrid performance. Now you can download. Basically, extract the file contents to a folder of your desire and run setup.exe - Simple eh?

These performance tweaks are compliments of the DNA Performance package and KillerSneak - check out his ATI Catalyst Mods/Drivers @ http://www.donotargue.com - Resolutions fitting to screen are compliments of myself. And, this has been a tedious experience so I hope you all benefit from it.
Now you have all resolutions that fit to screen, and you also have your CrossfireX controls when right clicking the CCC Icon on your taskbar, and you have an added tweak or two that I think should make you happy.![]()
Feedback is welcome, enjoy!

I'll check it out when the time comes...
-
Thanx for all the work you have been doing. Would rep you but it says I need to spread it around.
-
Eh..no reps needed - Just lemme know they work for you
-
They work for me and I havent even used them yet... Hey E, good job man.

Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Once again, great drivers E!
-
Yea..yeah.. I know *takes a bow*
-
E-
I'm downloading now to give a try. Be advised that your link to the release notes isn't working anymore, at least not for me. I get a redirect in the AMD website saying I don't have permissions for the requested section. I'll let you know how they work for me. -
Good deal..lemme know how they work for you?
-
Upon reboot after install I had a black screen but the windows mouse cursor. Never got it to boot. Hard shutdown and restart, booted into windows a little slow, but then everything fixed itself and it's running. Just ran a quick far cry 2 bench, average is still the same, though the first run was lower than normal (39 fps), final average was high 42. Didn't see any major differences in anything, so they work.
If I see anything else after some extended use, I'll let you know. Thanks! -
one thing I noticed with FC2..if you set AI to "Advanced" then it improves performance with these drivers. As I mentioned elsewhere, these are also the same as the 8.12 Hotfix basically. ATI added some performance gains for Crossfire.. on the DX10 side. DX9 and crossfire works well with almost all previous versions. This is one reason 3dmark06 won't gain anymore. Now, it's a matter of ATI enhancing DX10 and 10.1 for games having issues with Crossfire. This driver def helps in Fallout3, GTA, FC2 when AI enabled advanced, UT3, etc. But..I'd like to let everyone know, don't expect better synthetic benches from it.
-
Synthetic benches are useless anyway. I will report that my previous issue with Far Cry 2 that inspired my research(GoG) into the GPU temps is now solved. I haven't posted that over here yet, I'll get to it soon. Basically, Far Cry 2 would crash out after about 1 to 1.5 hours, thought it was GPU overheat. I was able to play for over 2 hours last night, no crash. Thanks!

Sweet .
Congrats!
-
it's lovely and thank you so much. but what about xp drivers? *cough*
-
Once OCZ supports XP on this laptop, so will I
And how are some newbs gonna vote in my poll results for me to give up modding? Those fools haven't even posted in NBR more than 3 times combined -
It's all part of Intels dark plan to ensure we all upgrade, even if you don't want to. After all what do you know about what you want? It's so evil, it's almost Mac like!
-
Even as a newb, the drivers worked great. No probs installing. Been a silent observer for some time now. Thanks to all you guys for the help in deciding on a new system. Just got my RKC-1756 in the other day. No display issues so far with any of the games I've installed. Deploy to the "holy land" in 2 weeks. Will try and keep abreast on the updates from afar (even though I'll be bandwidth stymied). Great job E, keep up the good work.
-
As a fellow soldier(11B w/purple heart/CIB), I wish you luck, and ask that you keep your head down, until it's time to run. May God be with you brother.
-
Thank you very much for the modded drivers!
Just curious, does anyone have benchmarks comparing 8.12 and this new one? -
Synthetic benchmarks provide very similar performance.. gaming, this should provide buch better performance.
That's the only comparison I got for ya.. sorry

My pleasure. Enjoy it
