Elktronics 1660 ti video card bios

Is it possible that anyone with an 'Eluktroboost' capable Eluktronics notebook with a GTX 1660 ti post a copy of their video card bios? I know the MECH 15's and 17's with 9750h are two of the models in this category.

From what I can put together some Elktronics laptops with 'Eluktroboost' lack the 80w power limit that all other 1660 ti notebooks have. I want to figure out if this is a change in the vbios or if it uses some other way such as a laptop equivalent to a shunt mod to bypass this power limit.

You can read the bios to a .rom file by pressing the button to the right of the bios version readout in GPU-Z.

Edit: TongFang 1660 ti laptops with 'turbo mode' may also have this tdp bypass so those vbios would be helpful as well.

 

From what I understand from the information in the YouTube videos Brother @B0B has shared based on his hands-on work this is a hardware-level exclusive feature/mod from Eluktronics and not a vBIOS tweak. This was one of the reasons I ordered from them rather than one of the alternative sources. My experience with them so far has been all positive, so that is a nice added-value benefit and I have every reason to believe that being one of their customers will be a good thing.

If that is the case, cross-flashing the vBIOS probably won't do anything and it may not even be different firmware. I don't have mine yet (it was delivered speedily, but I am out of town on a business trip) so I haven't had the opportunity to explore things yet. I am guessing it is probably something like a shunt (resistor) mod to mute the measurement of power consumption in order to circumvent the firmware and driver-induced performance limitations. A shunt mod is the only simple tweak that works effectively for Pascal and Turing desktop GPUs as well. You can tweak and cross-flash firmware until you're blue in the face and it's largely a waste of time until you intervene at the hardware level and fix the gimping crap NVIDIA has implemented to cripple their GPUs and meter their performance capabilities. By neutering things in stages, they can represent their old tech as something new and improved to maximize profits with an investment of minimal effort.

 

That's what I thought at first until I was a post by @SlickDragon on the "TONGFANG GK7CN6S / GK7CP0S / GK7CP7S" thread that states that he does see his 1660ti at 90w in software. @B0B seemed to have based his assumption (at least in the video) that it is not vbios related do to the fact that he never saw it above 80w. I was hoping to use "Mobile Pascal TDP Tweaker" to see what the vbios power limit is which, while not fully compatible with Turing, can at least read the power target and limit.

While it is most likely a hardware tweak I'm chasing the small chance that it is vbios related. It could also be a combination of both where the vbois has the TDP limit increase and the hardware has a better VRM setup to support it.

My 1660 ti doesn't break 70C under sustained load and maxed out at 78C with full CPU, GPU load. The only thing holding it back is the power limit throttle that is on 99% of the time. It sucks that I could get nearly 40% performance improvement over stock with my 970m but barely any with the 1660 ti. Navi mobile couldn't arrive soon enough.

 

I was told straight from the horses mouth that this wasn’t bios related. Heck, I asked because I knew this would be the first obvious question as the video matured.

I say this because if this wasn’t truth, then we’d probably have threads about it by now.

Just remember, Eluktroboost wattage versus “stock” will appear the same within software.

 

The sad thing is you see almost exactly the same thing with the most expensive desktop enthusiast/overclocker versions of the 2080 Ti and everything less. The Green Goblin really knows how to knock the ball out of the park, but when they screw up, then do so royally.

 

Thanks for clearing this up. There's not a lot of information out there and what is there is vague and sometimes contradictory. I guess I'm waiting for a fully certificate bypassed NVFlash or someone else to successfully manually flash a desktop 1660ti bios.

At least this thread can save anyone else from wasting their time should they catch this same bread crumb trail.
