Ok, I did not mean to make it sound like a Kaiju battle

I live in the US and I was really pumped about the new Eluktronics Prometheus XVII cause it has five copper heat pipes and four vents! Plus they have Thunderbolt! But I just got off the phone with one of the techs and he said the base wattage for the new Rtx 30- gpus is 115 w which you can change to 135 watts and the +15 watts comes in if dynamic boost is supported. Plus he said they probably won't have a laptop with Ryzen 5900hx anytime soon :(

XMG has the 5900hx CPU option even though they're sold out right now but they're in EU and I'm in the US and shipping might be a nightmare!

Clevo/Sager, what have you guys got in terms of amd processors?

There will definitely shortages on the 5000 series cpu's for awhile now. Going to another manufacture isn't going to fix that issue. Even main stream manufactures like Razer are going to be short on them. So if you want a ryzen 5900hx in it I think it would be best to wait for Eluktronics. They're a really nice company and have very responsive support. And the Prometheus XVII looks like it's gonna be a beast to beat in that form factor. If you need something TODAY intel is going to be the way to go.

I'm willing to wait for a bit but the Eluktronics guy said since they're just starting to ship out their brand new laptops with Ryzen 7 5800 and that's still into late March, there most likely won't be a Ryzen 9 5900hx option ever :(

Well you can preorder and they’re pretty accurate with they’re estimates for shipping. You’d just have to get a 3080 along with it. Which with what I’ve seen is a waste of money. Honestly the 5900hx isn’t gonna blow anything intel has out of the water if you’re just gaming and may even hurt performance. It’s a good chip for sure but it’s not worth an addition $900 in my eyes.

I won't be just gaming on the laptop, this will be my everything laptop where I will be learning 3d modeling and animation, and programming. Plus I always have like 500 tabs open

Could be worth the wait then. I know Ryzen is definitely a work horse champ. I think so long as you can wait until late march that Elektronics will meet those shipping dates. Chances are they're probably just trying not to make any promises in case things don't shape up.

I think Asus is the only company that has got their hands on the 5000 amd cpu's for the time being. Clevo doesn't seem to have anything yet. Hopefully soon though.

Ryzen 4000 and 5000 chips have been way, way too scarce. I'd recommend waiting, and nabbing the 5800 - The 5900 is usually overkill, but especially so when in a laptop form-factor and power limited (cooling, I mean).

Eluktronics has the Ryzen 7 5800H and XMG has the Ryzen 9 5900hx. I'm really interested in what XMG has that I might pay extra for shipping since I live in the US

Interested in Eluktronics XVII too, especially its QHD screen. But its price in US is much higher compared to the same model in China (4800H+3060 for less than $1250, 10875H+3070 1TB/32GB for $1850).

Also its build quality looks not qualified for its price tag. There are too much empty internal space.

I’d honestly have to strongly disagree with that. I had a Max-17 and while it wasn’t as premium feeling as something like a Razer Blade Pro it certainly ran better and had less software issues. And if I was told my next laptop could only a be a Razer or Eluktronics laptop, I would take the Eluktronics machine without a second thought.

As far as the price difference? These machines are made by Tong Fang in China. So they’re cheaper in China. Eluktronics has to pay import taxes and has to make a profit. They also have they’re own custom software that the ones in China straight up don’t have. And Eluktronics is a reliable reseller with good customer support. So that all adds value in my eyes.

I'm looking at these for a possible upgrade. I'm using Razer 17 pro now with the gtx 1060.
All the new razer laptops now have 73whr batteries. That coupled with the more power draw from the 30xx is making me look elsewhere. I'm concerned about the new power bricks to drive the new 30xx laptops. They all seem to come with 230w minimum bricks, where my laptop with the 1060 is 165w. I power this thing with a battery powered inverter sometimes and I wonder how much time I will get with one of these new laptops.
