What is the recommended/tested software to create a backup image of the entire drive including the hidden restore partition.

    Thanks All

    yup, acronis has been great

what i did was restored the laptop, and then used acronis to make a backup of windows before windows asks you for all your info.

if you made a backup of the laptop using acronis, you dont need the hidden partition.

A linux/unix utility called Digital Dolly will work too. It's supports network shares too. I can also do a RAW copy to the same size drive. There is a free live cd version available.

I used Ghost to do my Gateway. It seemed to copy it ok. When I upgraded to a larger hard drive. At least Windows sees it as a recovery partition.
