    Hello

I just recently bought a eSata expresscard to connect my external harddrive with more speed, but nothing is recognized when I plug it in.
The green led on the card comes on for a short period some times, but it doesnt seem stable. Also the card gets pretty hot in a short time. Ive googled that and it seems like this is not unusual but im not sure.

    This is the card
    Inno3D

I have this '?' in the device manager which is called 'PCI Memory Controller':
    device id: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_444E&SUBSYS_444E8086&REV_01\4&29E2C51B&0&00E1
    hardware id: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_444E&SUBSYS_444E8086&REV_01

After googling it seems it has something to do with the memory boost ability, which is normal when running win XP right?

I'm also wondering how the expresscard slot driver should appear in the device manager if it is installed correctly. Is it the Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Cardbus Controller? But Cardbus is another type of card am I right?

This previous thread about what could be the same issue didn't help me:

    cheers

Did you install any driver for the card?

It should then appear in Device Manager under SATA or RAID controllers.

No I haven't installed the driver for the card. I didn't know I could do that without it being recognized.

I have just installed the drivers choosing to install it as "SCSI and RAID controllers"
It just says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" and has the yellow "!" mark in device manager.
Also it doesn't light the green LED on the card or the other one (there are two, but only the green shows a little flimps once and awhile).
In a minute or two it gets so hot as it hurts to hold it tightly on the metal.

The driver is "Silicon Image SiI 3132 SoftRaid 5 Controller" if that says anything..

I googled a bit and found these:

    expresscard/54 hotplug not working [Archive] - FedoraForum.org

I don't know anything about it really it is just out of desperation I saw that they have ICH8 family intel, which I have too.

I have also checked in the BIOS and have tried enabling the things that had to do with PCI Express slots and hot plugging and stuff. Again, I don't have much experience in this field..

I am completely lost. It seems like the problem is even before the drivers; the LED doesn't even come on, even though I plug my Harddrive to it and turn it on.
I have also tried restarting my laptop with the card plugged in, to see if it had anything to do with only the hot plugging not being supported.

Run Everest and look at Motherboard->Chipset->Southbridge where your pci-e ports are shown under PCI Express Controller like this to see if the card appears when inserted.
