I have a problem with my dvd drive in my compal.
Im using it for about a month now and recently my drive vanished .

Drive that is place in my compal is :
    slimtype dvdrw ssm-8515s

The thing is that the BIOS is seeing it and a while ago i tried to boot an Ubunto from it and didnt have any problems . Its only not appearing in Vista .

Moreover the Device manager in My Compyter can see it yet its noted with a problem saying :
"System Windows cant load the device driver. Driver might be damaged ir not present. (code 39)"

I did uninstal the drivers and rebooted the CPU but nothing changed .

Same for virtual drives i tried to reinstal them several times and nothing have happened .

    What should i do ?

    Please help

Did you update firmware before? Does dvd-rw drive read CD /DVD respectively in windows?

After boot in Ubunto, Does dvd-rw drive read CD /DVD and write CD /DVD as well?

Was the drive working properly before?

No i did nothing with it . I got the laptop , installed all programmes deamon tools included . After that i didnt make anything with DVD drivers/frimeware .

Like 3 days ago i open my computer and i see no DVD , nor virtual drives were visable .

When i put a CD/DVD into the drive i hear the sound of it working but the autorun doesnt start . And as i said i dont have any visable drives in my CPU .

    Sorry for language :)

Regarding Ubunto I just put it into the drive and boot to check if the drive reads any CD's . And it did . I didnt install it .

As for your last question , i didnt have any problems before .

If you've tried to uninstall/reinstall/repair drives to no avail, try this
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314060

If all attemps failed to get dvd-rw drive recongnized in windows, try to restore windows or do a clean reinstall windows. It will take a lot of time but should get rid of the problem you're having. It's window's problem not hardware problem.
