Somehow the other thread is closed.

My father managed to spill quite some beer over my FL90. As soon as I plug the adapter the power button is light up but nothing happens. It seems that it tries to boot (the harddrive begins to spin) but it fails and tries again after a couple of minutes. As the beer touched the mainboard on the right side pretty near to what I believe is the northbridge, I fear I could have destroyed it.

Is buying a new barebone really the only solution? I think I will buy the Clevo W860CU as a replacement (you can get it now with a Mobility Radeon HD5870), but it would be great to retain the FL90 as I could put a 8600M GS or something like that and a low voltage CPU inside and use it for University stuff (although the W860CU is only 15.6" it has little battery capacity compared to the FL90).

So buying a new barebone is really the only way to get to a new mainboard?

I spoke to mySN, the shop I want to buy the W860CU from and they told me that they still have FL90 mainboards for sale. It would cost me €238 (about $330). I m thinking of buying the mainboard along with the W860CU. After all I already put some effort into the FL90. mySN also advised me to buy the W860CU with the 260M GTX and then switch to the 3x0M GTX in July, cause thats when they will likely get those cards. So thats what I m going to do.

I thought the same... its pretty weird, but I can trust the person who told me this - the company got pretty big in the last years as well... who knows why they have them... they dont even offer the FL90 anymore. Well I m going to order one FL90 mobo, then we ll see whats up.

OK, I didnt buy a new mobo - it was just not worth the money. I went to a electronic bazar here in Istanbul and some guy was able to fix the mobo for 120 bucks. He said he replaced the chipset. Well, I have no idea how long this will last now, but as I already bought the Clevo W860CU I will not be gaming with the FL90 anymore which should make it last longer.

Where did you buy W860CU? In Istanbul or online? What price?

Germany, online @ mySN for € 1469. Bought all my laptops there and I like their support. It just sucks that nobody is selling non-glare anymore...
