Unplugged my laptop, left battery in (like I've done many times before). Opened up bottom to look at the wireless card. Noticed I have 2 mini-PCI-E slots, wondered if the current wireless card would work in the other slot. Moved it, booted, Ubuntu saw it but wouldn't seem to use it. Shutdown, moved it back, booted and Ubuntu works normal. Buttoned everything up... was looking at old sites online and saw some disassembly pictures. Noticed that above the keyboard there are LED's to the right of the power button. There are some touch sensative buttons and then 4 LEDs. Mine don't work. Pulled up the panel above the keyboard, found the ribbon cable taped down and not even plugged in. Plugged it in, buttoned up and booted. Now I have hard drive LED! I just thought it never had it, I love having a hard drive LED.
Used the laptop for a bit after that, just fine. Maybe an hour, was running on battery just fine. Shutdown, took it over to the power cord and plugged in and walked away. Few minutes later I walk by and the Power and Battery LED's on the front are flashing in sync. Unplug and flashing stops. I remove battery and power, unplug power adater from wall also. Wait 2 mins, plug all back in and get flashing again. System seems to boot fine, but the 2 front and 1 power LED above the keyboard all flash in sync.
Shut everything down, removed battery and power. I have a spare battery, put that in and (I thought for sure it didn't have a charge, has been unused in over 2 years) booted fine from just the battery, had over 35% charge left. ... anyway. Plugged in power and LED's started flashing again.
I've left it off, unplugged and battery out overnight. Still same flashing, has been running perfectly for 4+ years. Any thoughts on what I can do to fix this? I'm a computer/network tech for many years, I have no problem going in and resoldering something if need be. Hopefully it won't come to that, but if I have to I'd be happy to.
