I have a Compal FL91 with a T7200 CPU. I have installed Windows 2008 Server (see www.win2008workstation.com), but I cannot get Hyper-V (RC0)to run. Can anyone confirm whether (or under what circumstances) the FL91 can run with VT enabled in hardware? I have seen posts that talk about Ubuntu 8.04 and kvm, but I am not a linux person.

Not sure if this apply but to you spefic machien but they change intel vt is turned off in you bios

also check http://www.grc.com/securable.htm winch free download tell you if enable

Just cause the cpu supports it does.nt mean you laptop does

your laptop bios might not have option to enable it

Downloaded and launched it and the status of the virtualization is like I said always on ^^. Are you sure hyper-v is not reserved only for server-class cpus?

Yes, the GRC utility confirms that the CPU supports virtualization (but can only tell that DEP is not available to the OS). I have not seen anything in the BIOS to enable/disable VT or DEP. But there are some people saying they can run Ubuntu 8.0.4 on the FL90 (actually, on a Sager laptop which is based on the FL90) with kvm, so I was trying to see if anyone actually had it running and how they did it.

You used to have to care about sleep and hibernate because earlier versions of kvm used a kernel module which would not resume from sleep or hibernate nicely. But nowadays, you just need to install kvm from the repos and you're in business.

Well, you need to read the documentation and know what the heck you are doing but no tweaking is required on an IFL90.
