Well, my FL92 shut itself down last night for the first time. After alot of testing, I am finding the common problem that the GPU is overheating. Close to 100c during gaming. I've cleaned the fans thoroughly. As stated many times on these forums, the problem is that the cooling fan on the FL92/EL80/HL90/etc is a combo for the cpu and gpu, and the fan speed is triggered by the CPU temp, not the GPU temp. So unless I can turn the fan to max RPM manually, im stuck with a desk fan blowing air on the laptop when gaming.
After looking at some threads on here;

I determined there is no such utility atm, but it looks like a saavy programmer might be able to make one using the right system calls provided in the tech manuals.
Does anyone have the experience or guts to try this?
P.S. If all else fails, any way to fool the sensors to thinking the CPU is at 100'C or something, to force bios to turn fan on?

Weird I tried running furmark stability test and the cpu temp doesn't go up but the fan start spinning faster and faster as the gpu temperature increase and the fan runs at full speed as long as the gpu is hot.... What is your bios version?
-
Think the newer BIOS may fix your problem.
Also, check the thermal compound and make sure you have enough amount on your CPU and GPU. -
Same here as with Ayle, fan kicks in as the temp of the GPU starts increasing. As I noticed there are few levels of speed and the fastest is when GPU is at 90C regardless where the CPU temp is. High speed for for CPU is at 60C.

Heh perhaps i need a bios update. Although the changelog shows no updates to fan control. But I can get to 100c on GPU, without fan speed changing. I'll try it and get post results.

Well, the bios update didnt help. Still pushing 90+'C when using the GPU (gaming). Updated to 118. CPU temps still nice and low, meanign the fan doesn't turn on, and the gpu goes crazy.
With all the talk about these 8600M GPUs being flawed, i dont like the idea of running mine at 90'C all the time.
There has got to be a solution to get the internal fan spinning faster. I mean when you first boot up the laptop, the fan screams. I wouldnt mind that noise heh, long as it kept me near 70'C on my GPU! -
It's not gonna go that low with the temps even when the fan kicks in full speed. As I said, in my case it's low speed until 90C GPU and then drops but somewhere between 80-84C. And that's normal.
