Compal is generally a reliable ODM. They are the second largest(I think) after Quanta. They build a lot of HP laptops(including my r3000). They are not into the reselling business as Asus is/was, but they are slowly changing.

That is correct, Compal is one of the largest ODMs in the world, second only to Quanta. The ODMs, other than ASUS, don't sell to the public. They only sell to the OEMs (see This explanation)

Compal has been selling through the "Whitebox" custom building channel for years. You will see Compal ODM units under several different major national brands as well as the smaller custom builder brands.

The only problem with the Compal DL70 is that it does not have the latest Alviso chipset features enabled like the PowerPro A 2:21 (Built on ASUS Z71V) or the PowerPro G 3:8 (Built on Quanta) . The biggest shortcoming of the DL70 is it uses the old PC2700 DDR1/333 memory instead of the newest PC4200 DDR2/533 Dual Channel memory. When you use two pieces of memory, you will get the benefit of the chipset support for Dual Channel memory that doubles the bandwidth from PC4200 to PC8400. So this is pretty significant when comparing it to PC2700 memory
