Hi
I've just got my brand new Znote 6024W with a Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 1,83 Ghz 667Mhz processor, 2 GB RAM and Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
The problem is, that the fan keeps on making noise. It never stops, even if i don't use the computer. The Bios version is the Z14ND06 (Z14I006 from Zeptos homepage ftp.zepto.dk). I have tried to, reset the BIOS, but this didn't help either.
I have tested the temperature and it says that the processor is between 38 and 45 celcius.
Anyone who can help?

Check your bios fan settings. They might be set too low.

I have to wonder whether you have an old BIOS such as Z14I004. I had similar problems when I got my 6024W 10 months ago.
The latest BIOS is Z16I006. You need to burn this to a CD and then boot from the CD (press F10 at the BIOS splash screen to select the optical drive as the boot device) and then the BIOS update will run.
If you already have BIOS -006 then I would look for a BIOS reset option. This BIOS has a fan on setting of 56C and fan off at 50C. Under light load I get the fan running about half the time but sometimes it runs for only about 5 seconds.

As you have already tried resetting the BIOS, I would suggest you think about changing the power profile in Vista. High Performance makes my notebook fan run all the time when plugged in, not on battery though. Whereas Balanced makes it run only when the temp rises above 56C, plugged in or on battery.

I have the latest Bios 006
I've just looked in the Bios. The active trip point is 56C, but the passive cooling point is 79C, should i set this to 50C? -
No. Do not set the passive trip point lower than this (79C). Your CPU will start to downclock itself to cool down too early. This will lead to you not being able to get the best from your CPU. Ever. I have actually increased the passive trip point to improve peformance whilst gaming as it had a big effect on preventing my notebook from stuttering when I was playing games.

Ok, I won't. But any other solutions?
I have talked to the guys at Zepto, and they thought that the bios might not support the T5550 processor. Somebody who has heard of this? -
Why would they sell a notebook with a processor in it that does not support said processor? That is just plain stupid. The notebook bios is the same as mine. I am running a T5250 processor, which is in the same family as the T5550, and apart from the power settings in Vista mine runs fine.

My power settings is set at balanced, so this shouldn't be the problem
It would be stupid, and it would be odd if the T5550 isn't supported by the Bios. Anyone out there with an T5550 processor and maybe a Bios update? -

I would not expect the cause to be the CPU model and I'm trying to think of other possible fixes.
When I used to have the problem, hibernation + resume a couple of times would clear it. The other possibility is to go into the BIOS and try to disable / enable DTS. I can't remember exactly what the settings are.

Hi
I have the exact same problem. It's kinda random though, it has its good days, and its bad days. It can go for a few days running normally, and then suddenly go cooling rampage! I have a t8300 cpu though, but temps are down to about 30 degrees - and it keeps blowing cold air. I have had it in for repair(other reasons) and asked them too look at it - but they sad it was something with the bios. Which it apperently wasn'tCause it's still blowing cold air. It's random, when it decides to blow cold air, so i could imagine, that it's kinda hard to figure the problem?
