Hey, I got my HEL80 a few days ago and I cant seem to figure out how to use the fingerprint reader... what program do you use to use it and how. Thanks
-
Have you installed the driver from the CD?
It's the Softex program. -
Yes i have

Get into the OmniPass Control Center. It should be fairly straight-forward to setup an account. Some people do get frustrated trying to register their fingerprints though--it can be a little picky.
One note: It helps to have a Windows log-in password set up before setting up the OmniPass. Otherwise, create a whole new profile to use with OmniPass. There can be some intricate issues in that area. -
I've set up an omnipass account but it doesn't ask for calibration or even mention it anywhere
-
Is there something I'm missing.. I use the omnipass thing to log onto my account, and I can encrypt folders with omnipass but it doesn't mention a fingerprint reader
-
When you set it up, did you register any fingerprints?
-
No I was never prompted to do anything to do with the fingerprint reader
-
I tried adding it through the enrollment wizard but it says that there are no devices connected to it. I've reinstalled the drivers like 3 times and the fingerprint reader shows up under program files.. any other ideas?

I would like to find a way to use the fingerprint reader to secure the BIOS of the laptop. Like a boot up password. So no one can boot to the OS even in safe mode without my fingerprint.
-
cant you make a bios password?
-
It is not just a matter of a boot up password, which I always have... It is the coolness factor of NEEDING a fingerprint to be able to make the system boot at all
However, I believe the system would have to have support for fingerprints built into the BIOS for that to happen.

Unfortunatly it would require a much larger ROM capacity in order to fit both the driver and application for hardware level support. Since you seem to be overlyinterested in security, make sure you have TPM enabled
