i need a little help though with the fingerprint scanner and getting it to work with the omnipass software. I've tried to follow the instructions to get it to work although when i try and add the device it tells me tahat i don't have any compatable devices. I've tried reinstalling the drivers but with no avail. Just wondering if i'm doing this correctly and if someone can help me sort it out please?
I have the UK version made by zepto, which is exactly the same as the one by compal
cheers

Are you trying to install it or setup a Windows user?

Do you have the EL80i, or the HEL80.
You may find that if you have the EL80i it does not have the fingerpring scanner
You can just look between your Touchpad buttons to see if it is there. If there is a rectangle opening there you have it, but if the buttons join together with nothing between them then you don't.
In any event, I would contact their customer support for help. I understand Zepto has great service -
I'm going to have Kubuntu on my laptop in addition to XP Pro, is there some way to have Omnipass initiate before it goes into the master bootloader?
-
i've set up a user for the omnipass and everything is password protected, but i cannot get the scanner to work it tells me that there isn't a device
I'm 100% sure that i have a fingerprint scanner. i haven't as such got a hel80, i've got the uk version which is the zepto 2425W but is exactly the same and even comes with the hel80 manual and drivers. -
I know I had some trouble when I didn't have my Windows user password protected before trying to set up OmniPass. It didn't work with my original user, but it did with any user that it created. I wanted to use my original user and so I uninstalled OmniPass, created a password, and then reinstalled OmniPass. That worked for me. I don't know how relevant that is to your problem because I don't recall ever having a problem detecting the device.
Perhaps you should give Zepto tech support. They are known to be very good. -
I received my 15:2 and the fingerprint scanner worked just fine -- but, as others reported, it was making Windows startup take a very long time, so I uninstalled the OmniPass software until such time as I felt more inclined to use it. (This cut a full 60 seconds off my boot time.)
This 15:2, though, had motherboard problems, so PowerNotebooks sent me a replacement. I ghosted the first notebook's HD and restored to the second, and then re-installed OmniPass (to make sure that the new fingerprint scanner worked). I re-created my profile just fine, but when I tried to add a device (the scanner) to that profile, it told me that I didn't have one. This despite re-running the ATMinInst.msi file in the DRIVERS folder and making sure that the AuthenTec device appeared in Device Manager. I then went back to the first notebook, on which the fingerprint reader worked flawlessly before, re-installed OmniPass there, and got the same result -- so I'm 99% sure this is a software problem, not a hardware problem.
Is there some "trick" to installing the OmniPass software that I'm missing? -
Aha! I got it to work!
If I installed the OmniPass software and set up the user while logged into my normal Windows XP user account, it would not under any circumstances recognize that there was a fingerprint scanner.
But (after completely uninstalling the OmniPass software), I logged in as Administrator, tried again, and it worked like a charm. I have no idea why this made any difference -- my normal user account on this machine is an administrator account -- but mine is not to wonder why.
(You may need to run TweakUI in order to make the "Administrator" account appear in the Welcome/login screen. Or just running in Safe mode might work, but I didn't try it.) -
I wonder if there is an alternative software other than the omnipass suite.

You can Google for an alternate software if you like

Hmm I never even thought of downloading a different program. Omnipass gets on my nerves sometimes...
If you find anything better please share
Do other notebook companies use other software? -
I've tried a demo of Omnipass. While it leaves something to be desired, at least it works most of the time with Firefox. But I could not get it to work with Opera.
I had some trouble getting it to recognize the Authentec fingerprint driver. So I rebooted; then everything worked!
If I hear of anything I will let you know. Be advised whatever software you use, be sure it works with your Authentec Fingerprint sensor driver. -
Just got back from hols and tried doing what you said kviri, and it worked! uninstalled then reinstalled and it recognised the fingerprint scanner. Didn't need to change any users or anything. finger scanning fun here we come!

Hi there,
I had the Omnipass Software version 4, but I formatted my laptop and forgot to save the setup file. Now I can only find the software from the Softex website. Does anyone have the latest Omnipass setup file? if so please can you msg me. Cheers -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The software should be on your drivers CD that came with your laptop.

I, too would like an alternative. Omnipass is too darn slow for me.

I never figured out how to get to do passwords on the internet.

I hate to ask...but have you read the manual?
-
No I didn't lol. I know you told me to read it when I bought the computer. Oh well... (embaressed face)...
-
Anyways.. its very simple..
You just click on the tray icon, and something like get password, it makes your mouse a key, and you click on the window with the password (After you type the username/password). -
Anyone had luck using the fingerprint scanner in a tabbed browser? It seems to just try clicking the entire screen after filling in my data.
-
I do know that certain pages' formats don't exactly work with the way omnipass recognizes fields. So I just don't use omnipass for those sites.
I've also noticed that the scanner seems to be less sensitive upon a cold boot. Sometimes I need to swipe twice or three times before it reads my fingerprint. -
Pages will recognize and work fine for normal IE, but load up maxthon and even after making a new profile for the same site that works in IE, it only types the information, but it doesn't hit enter. -
I've only used Firefox but haven't used any plugins yet.
I know if you use the Password Setup Wizard in your OmniPass control center, you can tell it to automatically hit "enter" after filling in your information. Perhaps that will help... -

I realize this is an old topic, but I felt I could chime in here.
Many of you are asking for an alternative to the Omnipass software....
At my shop I sell and setup Digital Persona readers and software. It is some of the best fingerprint software going, and should work with the Compal Hel80.
However, It is not free, and will only work with Explorer, unless you set it up with an active directory server as well. But if you wish to check it out, http://www.digitalpersona.com/

Is there any software for the fingerprint scanner that starts before windows even starts loading? Like right after post?

Omnipass 4 works for nearly every login page I use. There are a few exceptions where it just doesn't work, so I just don't use it there. -
When resuming from hibernation, Omipass properly asks for fingerprints, then logs me in. However, after that, Omnipass seems to close itself, so when I go into my Browser, Omnipass needs to be re-started because it is no longer running and no longer appears in the SysTray. A small inconvenience I would like to fix.
Anyone else notice this behavior? -
Thanks for posting though.
