(your welcome mods)
Its in the compal section because that is probably what most of my questions will be linked to...
First question to add in here:
Has anyone made contact with milestonepc lately? I have not recieved a reply to any of the emails i have sent to them in the past month and a half to two months...?
-

I'd recommend you try calling them if you're not connecting through email. I wouldn't wait 6-8 weeks for response by email. I'd be calling after 1 week max.
Who was yelling at you about starting new threads? -
coriolis, and I think there was another mod that was mad at me but i dont remember......
dang, i just realized i made a typo in the thread title geeze, o well i guess ill have to start a new one(im joking of course)
-
-
o, ok yeah i guess that maybe i might have done that a few times before...
and thanks for fixin that typo -
another question:
i been hearin some stuff about the santa rosa or somethin like that and i was wondering if it is worth waiting for, like is the performance increase going to be drastic or will it just be a small little change, and what will the price difference be compared to a core 2 duo?
and another:
whats the difference between 2 SODIMMS and 1 SODIMM? -
There are a bunch of discussions on Santa Rosa (aka Centrino Pro) going on in the Hardware forum. I also have a brief description of what it offers in the "Finding the Right Notebook" link in my signature. If you can wait, it will be a nice upgrade, but nothing that you must have if you need a notebook right away. The HGL30 may not be refreshed with Centrino Pro right away, so keep that in mind.
SODIMMs refer to the memory slots in your notebook. If you intend to upgrade your RAM later on, go with 1 GB 1 SODIMM, so that you can just add 1 GB stick later on. If you get 1 GB 2 SODIMMs, you will need to replace 2 512 MB sticks to get up to 2 GB in the future. -
ill also check out some of them discussions. -

What can a mac do that a pc laptop cant? (and vice-versa)
I dont know if this is true but i think i remember hearing that a mac laptop can run windows now? if thats true, it should run linux and then it would be far better i think...? -
Yes Mac can run windows under bootcamp, I think. Mac can't run PC games if not operating under the windows bootcamp. Nonetheless, the OS, OSX, is pretty good. As I stated the limitation of the Mac is games, and I hear it runs pretty warm, unless they fixed that.
On the other hand, if you don't know how to take care of a normal laptop or computer the Mac might be your choice. I hear they are pretty hard to screw up. Not to mention due to the OS its fairly hard to get virus, but don't quote me on that. I don't know a Mac, see Apple forum for details -
no games? dang....

They play games, Mac has some decent selections, but for DX9 games, many play acceptably fine under bootcamp, or so I've read. HalfLife 2 runs on a Macbook..not the PRO mind you, under bootcamp.. 40-60 fps. I havent' seen it myself so I won't give my gaurantee on that though. Many people also swear XP runs better on a mac. That seems impossible, but macs are mysterious machines. =P I'm seriously considering a new MBP for work and have read a lot on the subject.
What can a Mac do that a PC can't?
Have you used OSX... a mac can do that. =) OSX is aesthetically and functionally a personal preference, But I bounce between both XP and OSX daily. My personal opinion is that OSX is far more pleasing to use and has a more integrated feel (once you adapt your approach). It makes me feel fuzzy and warm. Being able to run XP makes a huge difference for applications you'd rather not re-buy, or can't get for Mac. I've compared the Hel80 vs the MBP 2.13 15" and it's definitely more expensive. The advantage/disadvantages, pro it's lighter by 1.5 pounds, has OSX, looks much nicer, Thinner, has DVI(apple),lots of accesories. cons: Hel80 $1850 similar config, 256MB go7600, XP pro included, 3 year warranty; MacBPro $2350(less with rebates) only 128MB x1600 gpu, Apple care 3 years
So a mac can also cost more, but is it worth it for good design?
Alternately I would build a Hel80 differently and may save some cash, I.E. an intel 7200, not 7400, and 2 gigs ram.. no bluetooth -

I have used Mac OSX for about a year. I recently sold my Mac to get my laptop for work as I really needed a laptop so I wouldn't have to live at work and so I could start working on outside projects. I really loved that machine a lot it was great. I did think about getting a Macbook but it is expensive and I didn't know how well Bootcamp would run Windows XP and all the tools I need to run which eat up every ounce of processor and ram that you can feed them. If you end up going in that direction please tell me how it works out and how the performance is.
