Will the 840 ever get the 4870s? Any updates on who is importing/selling/supporting this whitebook laptop now that OCZ is gone?

Alienware will definitely get the HD4870 (with GDDR5, not the slower GDDR3 used in the Asus w90) for the m17. no clue about a new distributor, but i daresay someone will do it eventually - the whitebook was selling far too well for it to just vanish.

Zfactor mentioned that, according to info he received a little over a week ago, there's still heat issues with the 4870s.

Im waiting on more info to come out on the new 4860s but die-shrinks usually mean less heat which would work out better for this chassis single GPU fan.

Personally I'd gladly take the slight performance hit (but still better than the W90s) for a machine that I didn't have to worry about melting down.

I am starting to think that this notebook will not get the 4870s as it needs a major design change to handle the heat--one GPU fan is not going to do it. Justin, at XoticPC, states on their forum that they are expecting to resume sales at the end of the month, however still only with the 3870 as a GPU option. Perhaps there is something to the conjecture that OCZ decided to stop distributing it for this reason and the apparent lack of quality control on the notebooks they were already receiving from Arima Flextronics.

The W840 DI should be available again the second week of April. The info we have received is these will still have the 3870 single and crossfireX. For the 4870 the info we have received is that they are still being tested by the manufacture and there is no eta at this time.

    GDDR5 4870s are currently vapourware.

Vapourware is hardware or software that never makes it to actual production and only ever exists in concepts.
