Excellent news, Donald!
I can vouch for this screen, this WSXGA+ screen is absolutely brilliant! You won't regret choosing this screen at all, believe me. -
Is it the same model screen?
I've been reading other forums and it sounds like the same model laptop often comes with different model screens. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes it is the correct model screen.
What you read elsewhere was about the 1440x900 where there was apparently a bad batch somewhere in Europe I think. -
From what I know (and I am situated in Europe currently) we've no such thing. Maybe another country. Europe's not a country, for you citizens of USA, it's a continent, with separate governments, different markets and hence different ways of obtaining different equipment.
I think you could find machines rerouted from other places over here, I'm not quite sure, but what I'd guess is that this stuff circulates all over the place. So I wouldn't be too shocked finding a WSXGA+ sometime soon - tho it's not really available so much here right now. I wouldn't be sure if there is only one source of Compals for the entire continent. Then again I could be wrong, haven't dug as deep into it as I could.
Cheers ;] -

I was differentiating the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) that we have here in the US to the apparent bad batch of WXGA+ (1440x900) screens that were talked about in post #11 & #13 in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=205919
What I remembered was the reference to Rizeon in the UK. (Of course we know Europe is a continent...that is why I said "...somewhere in Europe...") -
What is Compal IFL90's body made of? Is it a durable laptop? Is it a heavy laptop?
Is the screen really nice?
I'm looking around for a good 15.4" laptop with a good graphics card. -
The IFL-90 ( Sager 2090 ) is a very durable laptop. The body is 6.95 lb.- 14" x 10.1" x 1.4~1.5" not sure of the material but very strong stuff. The graphics are superb for most games and apps. but best of all you can configure these laptops to be your very own. No bloat or trialware. Completely awsome.
get the WSXGA+ screen if possible because It has great color and contrast. I use it for Photoshop and gaming. -
Sorry for my ignorance, MATTE equals no-glare?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes, that is correct. Matte does not reflect or glare like the glossy screens.
-
I have a FL90 since October 2007, and I have a no-glare display, which is great, the colors are not as sharp as in a glare display, but I hate reflections so I'm satisfied with.
-
What's the difference between FL90 and IFL90?
-
They are very similar, unless someone correct me, the FL90 support the 15.4" WSXGA+ display and the IFL90 doesn't. They also have different graphics chip and different LAN interfaces. The best is to go to www.compal.com web site and compare both datasheet side by side.
-
Hm, there is no FL90 on the compal site.
There is IFL90 and IFL91 and strangely IFL90 seems a lot better then 91 (support for dedicated graphics on the 90 as opposed to integrated graphics on the 91) -
Yes, the IFL90 is FL90, you are correct.
-
Mike -
As mentioned many other times in this forum.
The FL90 is a different body than the IFL90.
The IFL90 does support 1680x1050 screens, which I own one of.
The IFL90 has touch buttons and noticeably better build construction, from what I am pulling from memory of other posts.
From what I know IFL90 is a slightly better family member of the FL90. -
This is very funny, your description of IFL90 coincide 100% with my FL90.
-
The IFL-90 is more black in color tone (frame and lid), it has the heat-sensitive touch button strip above the keyboard, has a rectangular power button, the lid is glossy with the grey strip by the hinges and can hold a rectangular logo 4.5" x 1.5cm in size.
The FL-90 has no fingerprint module IIRC, it has a more bluish hue in the frame, and has a different lid that's matte, not glossy. The WOW Video, Audio, and other buttons are round and there is no touch-sensitive control strip.
The IFL-90 can support WSXGA+, whoever said earlier that it does not was incorrect, trust me, I have one.
Aesthetics aside, the FL-90 and the IFL-90 are pretty much the same. The FL-90 has more quantity in Europe, I believe, but there was a shipment that people got FL-90s in the United States early last summer. -
Then I have an IFL90, thanks.

Actually, the 1440x900 version looks the same and has the same components whether it is IFL90 or FL90, but the warranty procedure may be different depending on your reseller or OEM.
The 1280x800 version of the FL90 only has 256MB video memory, has the manual buttons instead of the heat sensitive buttons, and has the different LCD cover with the scab in the middle and the full indentation for the Custom LCD panel.
So, Wirelessman, does your LCD cover look like the 4th picture down here? -
Yes, it looks exactly like in the picture, except by the logo on the top lid
I don''t have any, I'm still looking for one.
I bought it from rjtech.com under the name of FL90, but I do have the heat sensitve buttons and all the rest. The only thing I'm missing is the internal TV tuner card, for which I didn't see an immediate use, but I'm wondering how difficult is to install it. -
I ordered my IFL90 on Monday and was able to change to the WSXGA+ screen, though I have to wait atleast one more week for it, which is okay. It was supposed to ship today.
Thanks to Eleison and Donald.

Woo Hoo!!
I just received my laptop. Now I just have to let it warm up to room temp before I do anything with it. It's -6F here and that UPS truck was COLD!
Mike -
So far I'm liking the laptop. The only problem I had was I didn't have a Hibernation option on shut down for some reason. I just reinstalled the software and now I have it back.
No I just need to find some way to help protect the back of the screen. It's so shiny I'd hate to scuff it up. I had planned on putting some kind of skin to protect it, but with the PowerPRO stick on logo the I'm not sure how to do it now since it sticks up. That would make smoothing out a skin difficult.
Mike -
I personally cut a nice portion of a plastic card (credit card type) and glued it (crazy glue). It looks nice.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
ATCSMike, the dilemma is that there is a recessed well under the logo, so if you peel the logo off you will have that depression, and of course if you don't it sticks up. Now Wirelessman suggests a good way to fill the depression, but unless you cut the plastic pretty accurately it wont fit exactly and your skin will find that depression and potentially tear at that point.
Why not just leave it alone and take care not to scuff it up. It is pretty tough stuff and while it may fingerprint fairly easily it is equally easy to clean.
Your idea just gives me visions of plastic covers over quality furniture... -
I know exactly what you are talking about...plastic covers over quality furniture........ But the reason I really wanted to close that space is that we could see some light from the LCD through a very small whole, my objective was to prevent that humidity, dust, etc. get through that whole.
The cute and paste was actually very easy and fun, I just put a piece of paper on top the space and marked it with a pencil, then I transferred that icon to the plastic card, cut it and end of the story, I'll send you a picture, it is actually one of my depleted starbucks card. -
Check my pics on this post, the logo is BTO nice silver/metal look with black text.

It's inevitable that the scuffing and all will happen no matter how careful I am. Right now I'm using that white cloth screen cover that it came with, but it is starting to wear out because of the ins and outs of my laptop bag.
Where can I find those in a more durable material? Because I would be happy with just using that.
Mike -
There is a company that makes them but they won't sell you one logo, they want you to buy by 100s. Then you will pay about $400, is that what you want? I have their web site I just have to look for it.
-
Hmm... Pillow case, I may have an idea.
Mike -
The company's web site is www.namethatcomputer.com. They are sending me some samples this week, I will post a picture as soon as I get them.
-
I'm still searching.
Mike -
I'm glad that my first suggestion gave you the idea of the pillow case, be careful to fall asleep in the plane and that someone use it as a pillow
You can also use a laptop skin, there are very nice and creative;

I don't think they would spend money sending samples to one consumer that would pay just 100 of them, they are looking to sell big quantities. Are you also looking for a domed label?
-
I just need one badge , I might just go to one of these locksmith places and have them do a name plate looks about the same size but not sure -
Wait I receive the samples, I may send you one, not guarantee though. I have no idea what they are sending me.
-
I'm still trying figure out where I can find a small pillow sham that fits the same way as the cloth protector I have.
Mike -
As I said at the very begining, remove the sticker, cut and paste your wife's (or girl friend's) credit card and fill the space, and then put the skin. You get two benefits, protect your lid and stop the expenses
