As you may already know, the Compal section is currently lacking a short description.

    How would you describe it?

at the moment I was thinking of submitting this for the description
"the world's 2nd largest notebook manufacturer, producing popular brands such as Dell, Fujitsu, Toshiba and Zepto!"

That sounds good, anything to let more people know about Compal. It's also important that people can feel safe with the brand, because I'm not very computer-savvy and I've never even heard of Compal until recently.

I was contemplating between the Inspiron E1705 and s96j when I found the HEL80, and it was a good thing that I found it.

    How about:

"As the world’s 2nd largest laptop maker, Compal has designed and built laptops for all of the major brands as well as Custom Builders for over 22 years."

To try to name all of the brands that Compal builds for would be futile, and would surely offend any that are left off of the list.

Established in 1984, which is virtually at the birth of laptop computers, they have been in business for about 22 years.

This is a long time, but this information is on their homepage that Goren linked to in his Stickied Compal thread.

Goren, each time you mention the Compal FAQ, the link takes me to the same message ("What Should I Buy FAQ (Please Read Before Posting)") which has nothing to do with Compal in particular.

Is there anything I'm missing? :)

I had the same issue and figured out that anytime someone types fa q the link to the Notebookreview.com faq is automatically inserted...there is nothing we can do about that except never use fa q unless we want it to go to that page.

That is why I have been referring to the Compal page that Goren Stickied. Pretty awkward, but there is not much else to do.

Thats an Americans oppinion, over here in europe, you say compal, alot of people would reply "you mean compaq?"

its obvious this forum is based only for north americans so I wont be posting anything zepto in here even if they do have connections to compal.

I don't really see why you have to think that way. Not too many in America know Compal either, they would probably think of Compaq as well. Secondly, most of the Compals sold in the US are sold under different names, such as Chembook or Power Pro. It's the same elsewhere in the world, I don't see why you think there are special biases present just because we didn't emphasize Zepto. It's mentioned in the Compal Faq as a European reseller, and the forum description doesn't mention any other brands either.

In the end, it is simply easier and more convenient to address these notebooks by their Compal designation, rather than their Chembook, Zepto, etc aliases.

    For example:
    Zepto Znote 2225W - Compal HEL81
    Zepto Znote 2425W - Compal HEL80
    Zepto Znote 2114W - Compal EFL 31
    Zepto Znote 2314W - Compal EFL 30
    Zepto Znote 2215W - Compal DL 75
    Zepto Znote 2415W - Compal DL76
    Zepto Znote 4015 - Compal AL51
    Zepto Znote 4315 - Compal AL50

Only their 6 series are Compal products unique to Zepto.

but as you can see, it is simply easier to address the Compal HEL80 by its original designation..the Compal HEL80 instead of throwing out Zepto Znote 2425W, Power Pro L8:15, Crown P 15:2, Chembook 4080, etc and etc

Since so far it seems that the 6 series is unqiue to Zepto, it pretty much makes them the OEM and thus, should probably be posted in the "other manufacturer's section". otherwise the sheer majority of Zeptos are Compal whitebooks.

This is a forum for EVERYONE...and before making posts like the one u just did GET URE FACTS STRAIGHT!!

1- ANYWHERE in the world when u say compal most people say "u mean compaq"...just like the "asus- acer" issue, they r ODMs so they rn't well know and dont have ad campaigns like other brand names do.

2- copmal has designed and built laptops for major brands for over 22 years...guess what....these laptops r produced in taiwan and shipped WORLDWIDE if i'm correct u do have dells, sonys, HPs, gateways etc...in europe, right? well guess what those ARE "major brands"

3- Alot of the barebone systems (compal & others) dont go by the ODM name, the reseller usually gives them a name, zepto in europe, powerpro & crown (to mention a few) in the US.

Wether u want to post or not is really up to you.....if u bothered to read through the threads on this page...this one in particular, u might find out the reason that comment was made in the first place. Like i said...do ure homework before ranting!
