Do the problem continue when you reinstall? What bios are you using? Can you keep the task manager open and check if there isn't any program spiking the cpu usage?
-
This happens to me also many times, but it's explorer, man I hate IE. However I'm able to kill it with the TM. Although not everything frezzes, just one particular IE opened, I have VB though.
-
i will try to catch and check if any program spiking cpu.
-
Try to flush the BIOS, 1.16 is the latest and the best version so far. But is at your own risk.
-
I got the same problem, ever since I bought my fl90. It happens just like you said - from time to time, it just freezes for about 10 seconds and then - back to normal. I havent's reinstalled my os... my bios is 1.16
-
Is your frozen IE that freezes everything?
-
No, I use only firefox...
-
I just have this problem when I use IE, but it never stops, I have to use the TM to close the frozen IE session. After that I'm fine, no need to re-boot or something.

Please check the following.
Smart Battery version:
Realtek HD Audio driver. -
Smart Battery version: I don't know where to find it, I only find the MS ACPI batt controller, which version is 6.0.6000.16553.
Realtek HD Audio driver: 6.0.1.5413 -
Smart Battery can be found in the software list.
Realtek, yep update this driver by downloading newer driver from the WWW.REALTEK.COM.TW website.
You do have the extra buttons on the left next the keyboards isn't it.
The top button when pressed can turn orange, this then will set the charge mechanisme for the battery in progress.
The lower button is to charge a cell-phone when connected to the left side USB ports when pressed.
THis will charge the cell-phone but it will take the power out of you notebook battery. -
W/r the Smart battery, it is in the control panel, but there is no property on the menus.
But why do I need to know about these drivers, are you insinuating that they are causing my IE issue? -
Could be mine wasn't working very well and caused the power menu to be corrupt.
I heard a story from some person which had an issue when he unplugged the power form the notebook and running it on battery.
The notebook stopped working after 5 minute's it froze and then BSOD.
I also had an issue with an external HDD and tested this HDD inside the notebook same lockup issue.
Discovered the HDD ahd an feature named acoustic, disabled this and the issue was solved. -
sometimes things are not what they seem to be, so that's why is goo to follow a troubleshooting guide.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem.
My machine: Compal FL90 - T7500 - Gf 8600GT 512MB - 200GB HD @ 7200RPM Using Windows XP SP2.
My pc suddenly hangs with no reason for 10-15 seconds, sound, mice, everything you can imagine... then your hear the hard disk spin "on" again, and 2-3 secs later the pc responds again. I have it like once or twice a day or so.
I'm using BIOS v1.16. Afaik, my sister, using the almost the same laptop as I have, in Windows VISTA, hasn't informed me about having any similar issues.
And oh yeah, i'm not using my Realtek soundcard, I have an Creative X-Fi Notebook in it. -
I love Windows! (puke)
-
WinXP pre SP3, confirm the problem too. I using latest realtek drivers and smart battery so I don't think it is them. It freezes really rarely so I didn't made no big thing out of it. But since you put this up it is now clear to be the problem on a large scale with FL90 models.
the last time this happened I was lucky to turn task manger on, it seems that WGATray.exe may be the source of the freezing problem. by the way, my friend never updates windows and his laptop never freezes. -
Well I tested some software apps and downloaded a few tools and discovered when I download something from the microsoft website and it needs to check using the WGA-CERT it will lock for say 4/7 sec and then it will go further.
So yes something is wrong but I don't know what's causing this. -
can we find out?
-
I have also been experiencing this problem; as far I know from other threads the problem is winxp-specific and reflects in the "parking of the HD head". Some people reported that the installation of NHC program and "max performance" option set there helps (for me it did, since the freezes are now really rare; usually when playing DVD). Some other people say that BIOS 1.12 and Power scheme "always on" in winxp option solves the problem. Anyway I also contacted the compal tech support but they haven't helped me so far.
-
the solution is ... upgrade the firmware of DVD drive to the latest AS06 version. download here; http://backfire.rpc1.org/tsstcorp/index.php?path=TS-L632D/
-
i installed the new version, hope it helps, thanks matsinho!
-
i used to have the same problem....
my solution:updated to vista sp1 -
True, the Vista doesn't have any freezes, it's only XP issue. I did a fresh install of WinXP SP3 CD I made with WMP11 and IE7 already in it and as I though disabling windows update and WGA installation helped. There are no freezes left. So it must be WGA for sure.
-
It's not only an XP issue. I've got Vista SP1 and i'm still experiencing those freezes.
-
It's over a week since I've installed the updated dvd filmware and I haven't experiensed any freezes so far!!!
-
I have a completely different DVD drive. And there is no newer firmeware updates for it.
Well I don't know. To tell the truth, I didn’t update Vista also, but it's just because I don't want me MS medicine to fail. -
-
The issue is not linked with the dvd firmware. I've got a different drive and i tried to update its firmware as well but i still experienced these annoying freezes.
And the issue is definitely not WinXP specific since I have Vista. -
Hi,
I have the same problem with my FL90: random freeze.
I use Windows XP with SP2 and I prefer keep this OS.
I try to resolve the problem with your differents solutions but I'm not sure it will work.
I hope Compal will found a solution for theses problems. -
I tell you, try installing a fresh copy of OS and turn off and forget about automatic updates (and manual with VGA requirement too). I have to machines to prove this was it.
If you reaaly like to add some hotfixes, I sugest doing this right into the intall CD usint nLite tool. I just made a CD with SP3 for example. -
Its always a fresh install of XP, and automic updates are disabled.
