A good review of the Hitachi Travelstar 7K200!
Speaking of power, the 7K200 is not only the fastest 2.5" 7,200 RPM drive, it is also the most energy-efficient. The first generation Travelstar 7K100 required up to 3.8 W with the UltraATA/100 interface or as much as 4.6 W using SATA/150 (which should make clear that the serial high-speed connect has a significant power disadvantage). Seagate’s Momentus 7200.2 staying below 3.8 W is already a good result that the Travelstar 7K200 can beat: we measured a maximum power consumption of only 3.2 W. This is only slightly more than the maximum power requirements of a typical 250 GB 5,400 RPM drive. The idle power requirement of 1.1 W for the Travelstar 7K200 is also a huge improvement over previous generations, which required up to 1.7 W (Momentus 7200.1).
And
Things are a bit different in the 7,200 RPM high-end. Hitachi did what it wanted and took the crown for providing the fastest mechanical notebook hard drive available today. Its access times are equal to those of Seagate’s Momentus 7200.2, but the Travelstar 7K200 delivers clearly faster transfer rates. Yet it doesn’t consume a lot of power: it shines with power requirements that are at least 30% below those of the aged Travelstar 7K100, and still more efficient than the Momentus 7200.2. The only drive that comes close is Fujitsu’s MHW2160BJ, but it has a maximum capacity of 160 GB.

Can you compare the two in HD Bench or HD Tach?
-
Yes I will!
But the Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 is much faster than the 7K100 ;-)

Nice post,
I was going to hold off for a new driver until after the holidays...
but unless I see some reason why NOT to get this drive, I may
just get myself a little xmas present...er...for myself! -
Just seen this Hard Drive FYI (I could buy separately) :-

That's the same they I've ordered :-s ??
-
I were also thinking bout getting a 160/200GB 7200 HDD for my zepto, wich atm has a 160GB 5400. Im prolly going to buy it as a xmas present for my self, its allways good to spoil yourself
-
nice to see the performance increase
What about boot time, any difference? -
yea i'd be interested to see boot time results too
-
I could test that...
Is it necessary to do that with the two HD's with the same software on it??
Or is the amount of software installed on your HD not a boot-time factor? -
CLB-NL - Take a look at Start->Run-> type in 'msconfig'
Click 'Startup' and see how much non normal windows stuff is on there, though if you do have a lot don't worry just tell us what is starting up -
Thank you!
Yeah it's delivered! I am now making a backup,
and then going to install the 200GB 7200rpm'er!
EDIT: 200GB'er is installed:
And now I'm going to install Windows Vista HP 32 bit again!
EDIT: Windows is installed and everything works fine!
The 200GB is in reallife 186,3GB and that's quite nice haha!
So I have 2 partitions: C 36,3GB for Windows and programs and B 150,0GB for games, movies and music!
The HD get's a 5,3 in the Windows Vista Benchmark score!
My boottime has increased by +/- 25%!!!*
With the 7K100 100GB 7200rpm'er it took about 80 seconds,
With the 7K200 200GB 7200rpm'er it takes about 55 seconds!!
(* I haven't got installed all the same software as on the 7K100, but quite much of it)
And that all for a nice price of 99,- euro (A) -
A tipp is to take out the battery before you are putting the screewdriver in the machine. Looks good otherwise.

One unique feature of Zepto notebooks is that the HDDs are enclosed in metal foil. Why? Magnetic shielding was one suggestion I got, but I would admit that when I swapped my HDD over about 3 months ago I didn't bother with the foil. My concern would be that the foil tends to keep the heat inside the HDD.

And it wasn't IN the machine.. Only the two screws on the outside?
I Have put my 200GB'er in the same metail foil.. Do you think that's bad?
That metal foil isn't there for nothing I think...Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Ahaa okay thanks for your answer
Then I'm lucky because all my hardware works properly!
And do you know anything about that metal foil...? -
I also protects a bit from fluid, dust and other crap that can come in the the machine if you are unlucky.
You can run the machines without the foil if you want (we do not recomend it), but you still should put on the screews on the disc, as they are the ones that keeps the disc from falling out of it's connector. -
just one dumb question, these disks are SATA, but are there diffrent SATAs (like the connector or smth)??
From 100GB 7200rpm to 200GB 7200rpm in my Zepto Znote 6224W
