I take it the following is a modded IFL90 from PCMicroworks:

    Components:
    Intel® Core™2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/800MHz/4MB L2 Cache)

2048MB Ultra Speed DDR2 800MHz Extreme Performance Memory

    100GB @ 7,200RPM SATA150 Storage (1 x 100GB 7200RPM)

    No External Storage

8X High Speed Dual Layer +/- DVD-RW Drive

    nVIDIA Geforce GO 8600GT 512MB DDR3 EXTREME PCI-X GPU

15.4" WSXGA+ Super Resolution GlassVision Wide Screen Cinema Display

8 Channel Advanced SRS WOW Surround Sound System

High Speed 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Networking Adapter

Internal High Speed V90k Dial Up Modem

**FREE UPGRADE** Built In 802.11AGN 300mbps Ultra Speed Wireless Adapter

    Integrated Advanced Bluetooth Wireless Adapter

    Built In Biometric FingerPrint Scanner

    Dead Pixel Protection Not Included

Standard Limited 1 Year Warranty Coverage

**I can upgrade the ram to 4gb 667mhz for the same price.

Price on this came out to 1849.00. I guess I wondering what might make this worth 200-300 bux more than an NP2090 or IFL90? Would like some opinions if you don't mind :) I've checked out PNB and Xotic which were good in prices then I came across this at PCMicroworks. It's right at the limit of my price range. I'm trying to get a decent gaming laptop for about this price or lower.

    thanks

The screen is glass....is the standard IFL90 vid card DDR3? I have to call them about the surround thing...4 gigs of ram included in that price also if I want to...don't know if the 800mhz ram makes any appreciable difference...anyone?

That site has got some funky options. Advanced gyroscopic motion sensing controller? What's that all about? I must admit, though, I've never seen a company offer a free 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB RAM option. That's quite enticing.

Also, how'd u get it so low? The unconfigured one for me is showing up as $1944.

Another $100.00 off for a student discount :) They emailed me about that. Yes, it does look enticing. I'm going to call them tomorrow. Wu Jen on here has their Blackhawk model, NP9260, and cracked 10K on 3dMark06 with it OC'd, thread in the Sager forum. I saw that motion sensor...what's that like, a Wii controller? :)

EDIT: the pricetag of 1849. is BEFORE applying the student discount. Final should be 1749.

Ah, the 1849 is with the HDD downgraded to 100 from 160. Got it. It's quite a deal considering the ubiquitous student discount. Also, I'd say take the free 667mhz RAM. No need to pay for 800 mhz, the 667 is an absolute steal already (though it might just be "included" in the 1949 starting price). You should ask them about the 8600 GT too. Shouldn't it be GDDR3, not just DDR3? Lol, I like how the Logitech VX Revo is a $129 add-on. Talk about markup. Also, you don't get the 3 year Sager warranty that Xotic and PNB's IFL90s get. So that's something to think about.

I dunno, the hardware looks real nice, but I'd double check everything.

The Compal IFL90 on Xotic comes out similarly priced when equipped with the same/similar products. Final call is always yours.

Oh and the 4GB offer ends tomorrow (Friday the 21st).

Double check the graphics memory specification.
All IFL90 up til now were shipped with 512MB DDR2 400MHz memory.

I'll post after I call them. I'm going to ask about the 'DDR3' listed with the vid card. I've seen the 8600GT with 512mb DDR2 and 256 GDDR3. They're a reputable company, and I can't believe that's a typo. I'm also going to ask about the surround system I can't unselect and a few other things.

I configured a 5791 and 9260 there, looked great but the price blew me out unless I missed something :) The IFL90 above however, seemed to come out pretty good, but the add on warranty is not real cheap.

Believe me, it's been known to happen before. Sager had their specs specify GDDR3 on their 8600m GT for the NP2090, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. :(

And another, bigger, more controversial case was when Dell advertised their 1520 to have a GDDR3 8600m GT. Needless to say, when it was discovered to be false, the Dell forums went nuclear. ;)

Ok, the front line sales guy is checking to clear up what exactly IS that vid card. The surround sound is 7.1 output capable built in sound card. I'll 'port back for those that are interested. Though I'll probably go with the IFL90 because I like the options and 3 year warranty, that is if I don't get a 5791 or 9260 LOL

OK....the sales guy called me back and said the card is indeed an 8600GT 512 DDR2 not 3. That settles that.

Mmmm. Seems to be big issues with companies distinguishing between DDR2 and GDDR3. Not that it makes that much of a difference, but still, it's somewhat false advertising. What're you leaning toward theZoid? An IFL90 from Xotic or PNB?

Actually, a 5791 from Xotic I think...I need to keep it below 1900 bux or so. I would definitely go for the IFL90 if it were not for a 6 week backorder from today per Justin at Xotic....man, that's a long time in the tech world :)
