One day in the future, I might want to upgrade my G14's Core 2 Duo to a Core 2 Quad. I know the socket is the same for both chips. Anybody know whether or not BIOs would need updating as well?

    thanks

The cooling system wouldn't like it. The T9400/T9600 chips where dropped because of too little cooling. Also it has never been tested so it might not work at all, and there where no plans to support Core 2 Quad on the models.
As there is no support for it in the most recent BIOS (as far as I know), I wouldn't bet on getting it to work.

Yes, I do understand the power difference: 45 watts max for Quad vs 28 watts for my Duo P9700. However, Intel's mobile speedstep tech does allow the chip to reduce it's current demands depending on load, battery vs plugged-in, etc. Do you forsee any BIO's updates for my machine in the future?

    Cheers,

As REB! points out, no further BIOS updates will be released for any Zepto produtcs in the future, as Zepto is not more as of November 2009.
You might be able to find BIOS updates for some of the Zepto models as these where built on widely available barebones:

    • Hydra A17 (Model: M571TU with Nvidia 9800M GTX)
    • Titan A15 (Model: JW91)
    • Titan B15 (Model: M760S)
    • Znote 7000 (Model: M865TU)
    • Znote V15 (Model: W760TU)
    • Znote M15 (Model W760TUN)
    • Znote V10 (Model: M810L)
    • Znote X17a (Model: M571TU with most recent motherboard and Nvidia GTX280 M)
    • Znote X15a (Model: W86CU)

But for these models as they where designed specifically for Zepto, by Zepto you will not see any further BIOS updates:

    • Nox A15
    • Nexus A15
    • Mythos A15
    • Nox A14
    • Anthea A15
    • Orion A15
    • Znote G15a White
    • Znote G15b
    • Znote G14b
    • Znote V14b

Is it not possible for someone with BIO's programming acumen, to modify the existing updater to support, if necessary, newer hardware?

Basically yes, but there is an even greater chance to brick the machine so it won't work ever again.
