First of all, just wanna say hello to everyone, I've lurked around here for 2 years or so, but never needed to post, so just registered.
Anyway, my issue is, that I was planning to upgrade my FL90 GPU, and I know Radeons can be easily used (in terms of bios not install side), but since it's hard to locate 4650/4670 cards, I was thinking about another GeForce card.
And I know, that since the 8600GT (the one I currently have) doesn't have it's own bios, that it's installed to the laptop system bios instead. But what about if I purchase a different Geforce card (for example 9600gt), does it need to have it's own bios chip on card, or not (if not should it work with 8600gt bios)?.
Or even if it has it's own bios, does the laptop recognize it, or it will try to use the 8600gt bios and won't work?
And are there any workarounds for this, if needed of course?
-
Well ye I have seen some people try, but, does it then fail, because system still reads only 8600gt vbios, not the one one the 9600gt card itself? (And 9600gt was just an example)
And also 3650 isnt much of an upgrade aswell -
This guy claims in a post to have modded the FL90 system bios to support nvidia cards.
I did not try it, and won't dare to (sorry krugeros, noting personal), despite, the link to the file is dead. But maybe you wanna pm/mail him ...
And yes, Nvidia just won't work as far as I know.
Good luck -
Ty for the reply, and even that person said, he didn't try it, but it should work.
So, I don't think I'm gonna risk anything just in case. I'm not willing to break the laptop yet (especially after losing my job, cannot afford a whole new laptop).
So, I'll just keep it as it is atm, and will have a look on 4650/4670 from time to time.
