I believe that's a Mitac, and the same one that Voodoo sells as the M:860 for a much higher price. If they'd stick a WSXGA screen on it, I think it would be fantastic (although I think the 9700 is heavily underclocked).

    P.S. Here's a thread about it.

Thanks! I'm not so sure it's a Mitac, but regardless, is there an American distributor with a barebones version of this notebook?

I don't know of one, but the Clevo D470k should be comparable when it comes out this summer.

    It's supposed to be a Uniwill 258KA0:

    http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?p=288510#post288510

The Clevo is a 17" widescreen monster (I want one [ :D]), quite a bit bigger than the Uniwill. Actually, what I really want is an Athlon 64 notebook with a nVidia GeForce 5700 (for 64-bit Linux compatibility) but no one seems to build those.

That is what I have read...they have already come out with a zd7000 with the nVidia 5700, shipping now.

If HP history has been any indicator, most options trickle down from the zd7000 series, so I think there is validity to the articles I have been reading.

This month in Laptop Magazine (they do not put their articles online). They have a head-to-head ATI vs. nVidia. It is in this article that states HP's plans.

I am trying to find corroborating evidence online.

    These guys?

    http://www.techworthy.com/Laptop/index.htm

In the June or July (not shown online) issue? I didn't see the relevant article in the June issue's table of contents. I'll have to walk up to CompUSA tomorrow and check out the mag.
