From a gamer's perspective ... just how good is this 14-incher?
I've been torn between the A8Js and HGL-30 for a while now; Performance and available funds will be the deciding factor for me.

Asus keeps their GPUs at higher clockspeeds than Compal does. The A8Js has the go 7700 which doesn't necessarily perform a whole lot better than the go 7600 according to early tests, but it is still early to say.

Although Asus systems will get higher benchmarks due to higher clocks, the difference in real-life gaming experience would be near impossible to discern.

Choose the system that fits your needs best. Don't worry about a few benchmark points. You can't really go wrong with either.

^Superior ram is easy to install on the HGL-30 yourself, right?

So then, Katicflis, are you looking to see how much fps can get compared to a8js? Of course, it depends on the game you'll be playing.

    I do ...
But I'm also splitting the price with a relative, so ... if the HGL-30 is a couple-hundred cheaper then that's where I gotta go.

Considering that the HGL-30 has a WXGA 1280x800 resolution screen, the Go7600 will have no performance issues driving any game at that resolution; even if the HGL-30 did have a Go7700, it would not make too much of a difference because of the resolution.
