Hi
I've recently purchased a Compal Hel80 laptop with the following configuration:
T7200 CPU,2GB RAM,7200rpm HD,glossy screen.
Everything works great, but one thing I really CAN'T stand is the reflections from the screen. But here in Greece i didn't have another option...
I'm 'studing' this forum for about 4 hours.
1) There are some reviews mention that the 3M privacy filter and the antiglare film from PowerSupport do almost nothing to glare and reflections.
Can anybody recommend me a product which will stop these
reflections.I can't work watching my self alldaylong...I don't care if the quality
will be worse or if I'll have to carry the filter outside...
If i buy a 16" filter for laptop will it do the work?
And finally is glare and reflection the same problem? (Why antiglare and not antireflaction)
PLEASE HELP!!!
-
Glare is the same as reflection, since, if it didn't reflect any light there wouldn't be any glare. I can't recommend any of these products since I haven't used any of them.
-
Something like this may do the trick--although I haven't used it personally. At least it's not terribly expensive.
-
Thanks but the problem is that I haven't found anyone who has used any of these things.
I see MANY people complaining about glossy screens when in light conditions...
WHY don't they buy a matte film...Is the money or nothing works?
Still searching...No more reflections anymore... -
I had a glossy screen before and prefer matte screens having used both. I think $20 is a decent investment to try to see if it works. The shinza comes with the option of matte or glossy finish as well.
-
I've asked around about the shinza stuff (you probably got the link from one of my posts?
) Never got a reply from anyone of the complainers that seemed to try it.. That tells me the glare isn't as bad as they make it out to seem if they aren't willing to drop $20 to fix the problem.
-
Yes, I first heard of this particular product from one your posts
. If I had a glossy and really wanted a change--I think the shinza would be the first thing I would try.
But I will actually probably try to stick with matte screens with future systems. Eventually I may not have a choice anymore though :'(. -
It doesn't seem there's a solution. I'm trying to find a cheap way to get the
matte one.I've sent ScreenTek if they want to buy my new glossy and give me
a matte one...I'm from Greece and i believe the cost will be a pain, but i should have been carefull...Now I know. But if they have a distributor in Italy or Germany I would propably pay less (if they are willing to buy the glossy too).
I'll also call the store I bought from and ask them if they can order the matte one...
My experience :
DO NOT BY THE HEL80 WITH THE GLOSSY SCREEN UNLESS YOU WORK INDOORS... -
So I take it you are rejecting the idea of a cheap screen protector with matte finish as an inexpensive alternative to replacing the entire screen. Are you sure you don't want to try the inexpensive options first?
Good luck with sorting this out. -
But there's nobody have tested and shared his experience with us....
Please show me a review of any product like these , with pics etc which say
that it works...Is that matte finish like a matte screen? So why don't you guys
by glossy screens and with an extra 20$ have a matte one too??? -
I bought the matte screen for the resolution. After having a glossy screen right before it, I now realize that I personally would rather have a good matte screen than a glossy one.
I just think that a $20 investment would be worth making if it might potentially save you $400+ to put in a new screen. -
-
I am ordering one right now. I can't stand the glossy glare on my new Acer Aspire 5100. Otherwise laptop is great.

Thanks, but I found this link:

that lead to this product:

Maybe a waste of $27 ($20 + $7 shipping) but I'll give it a shot. -
once you get it, please post to say if it fixed your problem or not
-
ya, please write a review or rate it or something
-

yes, but it doesn't look like anyone wanted to be the guinea pig. I'll give it a shot and let everyone know how it turns out. I had to jump on the deal on got for my laptop, without even thinking about the screen. But if this is a decent resolution for $27, I'll be happy.
I've used stick-on type materials for my PDA's over the years, and they seem to work alright, but they tend to attract dust, and they're harder to clean. But we'll see. In a dark environment the glossy screen is nice, but 90% of the time I'll be using the laptop in a fairly well lit environment. -
I'll place an order for the Shinza product and let you know how it works when I get my laptop. I do prefer a glossy screen for the color vibrancy, but I also never will use my laptop outside.
I'm interested in seeing if the matte protector actually reduces glare from fluorescent lighting at school and ambient light from windows. However, it does not state that is what it is exactly designed to do.

Here's a link to Kensigton Easy on film- antiglare in the UK.. Since the poster is not from the USA, maybe ordering is easier. This product does state its for use outdoors to reduce glare specifically.. Probably the same thing as the Shinza -
In case anyone's interested, here's a link to a related post I made a while back.
Same problem, different product. Just figured I'd throw this in in case someone was looking for a second option to try. I was going to test it and report, but I wound up going with an IFL90 WSXGA+ that will likely be a matte screen. If I can't handle the tiny print and reorder with a lower resolution (or if it shows up glossy) I'll be trying everything, and I'll be sure to report what I find.
Edit: These guys are willing to cut to size, might be important to some. -
That product looks decent too. I should know in about a week how well the Shinza stuff works.
Glossy into Matte...
