I was really happy with my 6130 when I got it, and it does seem to give great performance for the price. I was also very happy with its gameplaying performance for games like Call of Duty.
But ****, this thing has gone wrong on me so many times. If the Cyberlink DVD player crashes badly enough, then the HD slows down to a crawl for some bizarre reason and the ONLY way to fix it is to do a factory restore. Last time I did that and saved my data onto a CD, it turns out it didn't burn most of the files properly and I lost so much stuff.
It also seems to be generating more heat than usual almost a year after purchase, even though I clean the insides and the fans regularly. Plus, I can't be sure but the screen seems to have lost its brightness slightly and whites don't look as good.
Averatec take forever to repair computers. People tell me that sometimes they don't even repair them and send them back in exactly the same state as before. I read stuff like this http://www.resellerratings.com/seller9343.html and it just makes me wonder what kind of company they really are.
I know some of you guys otherwise rave about Averatecs and I realize there will be lots of people out there who have nothing but good experiences (and it IS a great machine in principle, especially for the price) but ****, after years and years and years of nothing but trouble with laptops and laptop manufacturers, I've decided to cut my losses, send it back on warranty (it's nearly up) and see if I can get the thing fixed up for resale. That's why I'm buying a new lappy - couldn't afford to be without a machine while I wait for Averatec.
So one thing led to another and I decided to splurge on a Sager 5720 souped up to the max for games - a really fantastic, well built laptop. Plus, I'm getting it from Powernotebooks.com and I just can't believe the standard of their service - the salesman stayed on the phone with me for over an hour explaining the ins and outs of laptops in great detail and even talking me out of spending money I didn't need to spend on pointless things. The most helpful, honest company I have ever dealt with in my life. And from what I hear, Sager is excellent with customer support even though you'll probably find a couple of predictable complaints online.
Does anyone have any advice with me in dealing with Averatec? The problem is that the things that go wrong with it only happen once every few weeks and I wouldn't bet on being able to reproduce them at will. So I'm scared Averatec techs are going to give it a cursory check, give it the all clear, and send it back to me unrepaired. And by then, the warranty will definitely be through.
It also has a crack. After I gloated for so long at everyone else and wondered what in the hell they were talking about, I noticed one not so long back; a double crack on top of the lid on the right edge. Does anyone think they'll take responsibility for that? I never move my laptop, it's a desktop replacement and it's never been knocked, bashed, dropped or mistreated in any way.
And does anyone have any idea how much I should be charging for its resale presuming it comes back with the insides all fixed and working properly? I want to be completely fair about it. Does $500 sound far too low?

Have you gone to www.averatecforum.com? Maybe they can help you out?

With the problems you described you might get 2 or 300 for it.

Assuming it comes back with everyside inside all fixed up, which I think will most likely not happen unfortunately, I say you'll get at least $450 I hope. I've seen several Averatec
6000s go on Ebay for around $600 -

You know what . . I have no idea how I am going to go anywhere else! I'll be back there again for my next computer.
"Now THAT'S what I call service!!" - great quote, even though it is a cliche.
Goodbye Averatec
