After four faithful years of service my screen was cracked from someone basically putting all their weight on the lid of my COmpal CL56. The laptop still works but spider web like cracks with injured pixels make it difficult to read the screen.
So this is a goodbye to my CL56 as a laptop, however it is not a farewell. It will retire to a desk job attached to my monitor in the den, specifically for surfing and email. The time has now come for an upgrade. I don't think the current Compals will do my CL56 justice and so I look towards the ASUS G50V.
Goodbye.

any other CL56 owners around?

I didn't personally own a CL56, but I talked to a lot of people who did. They always seemed pretty happy with them over all. Of course they were usually calling me because something had gone wrong, but I don't recall a lot of catastrophic failures, usually just a failed component here or there.
We mourn the loss of your LCD, but give thanks for the moderately powerful desktop machine that remains.
Goodbye but not Farewell to my CL56
