Hi guys, I am still happy with my HEL80 so I cant justify getting a new notebook........
Well not yet anyway, so I was wondering can the HEL 80 run 800mhz merom cpu's like the T7700 or T7500.

    TIA

Nope...The Hel80 uses Socket M CPUs and the T7700/T7500(aswell as any mobile CPU with a 800mhz FSB) are socket P processors which is not pin compatible with Socket M.

I suggest maxing out your RAM(Hel80 should be able to read ~3GB) and/or getting a faster hdd(7200rpm or high density 5400rpm)

I have to agree with Kdagca. I think the "cheapest" and most effective way to gain some performance from your laptop is to upgrade the RAM and HD... and it should only set you back a couple hundred dollars.
However, if you're really keen on upgrading your CPU you would be looking for the T7400/T7600 models as they are compatible with the HEL80 socket... the only problem is that you're looking at dropping $400+.

Not true as far as processor is concerned. Check http://www.compal.com/Product/Html/notebook/EL80.htm - HEL80 is Merom Ready

AdamJanLuczynski, what you link to clearly shows the HEL80 uses the Intel Pentium M 667MHz processors...not the P 800MHz processors just as Kdawgca says. So, while the HEL80 is Merom ready, it is not Santa Rosa ready which are the 800MHz T7300, T7500 and T7700 processors.

So the answer is No...the HEL80 cannot use 800MHz T7300, T7500 or T7700 (Santa Rosa) processors. The IFL90 is the first Compal model that can use them.
