I have a three year old HEL 80 that has been getting super hot (>80 degrees C) even when playing light games like CIV 4. I've cleaned it to the best of my limited know how and had limited results.
I got a new laptop and planned to let my daughter use this one for her online schooling. This means she'll be streaming video for four - five hours/day and I'm really concerned about the heat damaging the PC or even burning her.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Even though I would not have recommend this before, I would suggest a notebook cooler. The technology and designs have improved a lot making them actually practical for aging notebooks like ours.
The main part that heats up on the HEL 80 is the graphics card and the left side of the touch pad. So dont look at those coolers with the 2 little fans look for one with a good size fan that is almost center or that would lie almost under the touch pad and the space bar. This should should keep the copper tubing for the graphics ( which is almost under the space bar) and ram at decent temperatures. Another point to consider is the base, of the cooler look for a soft but durable base since most likely it will be on your legs. -
This is what I am currently using, though its not perfect it covers most of the hot spots. My only problem with it is that the notebook slides down sometimes but that is not major.

I also use a freeware program called speedfan to monitor system temps.
