I installed windows vista ultimate and now my wireless just doesn't work. I have tried installing the vista drivers and what not but it doesn't work... whats going on? I can see the list of connections available, I set mine up it connects and then fails to work and goes back to "not linked"

*sigh* Another victim of software that wasn't ready to be released... How many people gotta have problems with Vista before people wait for it to mature?

from my experience with my wireless card....mines would just take a while to load when you start up the pc but after that everything is fine. did you try downloading the drivers from the Intel website instead of windows update? either that or updating your routers firmware might help.

Vista is still very young as an OS. Keep in mind that there are countless devices and drivers that need compatibility to be worked out in order for them to work. This is on top of the newly discovered bugs in the OS itself as well as those that have not yet been discovered.

Give it some time for Vista-related issues to get sorted out. To be honest, this is why I am planning to stick with XP for a long time before making the switch myself.

I'm planning on NOT making the switch. I just nuked the Windows drive on my desktop, and as soon as XP ends it's useful life (ie, games coming out that I want to play don't work on it), it's gone as well. I just have no use for a system that doesn't work, that chews up resources, and has basically added a flashy GUI and a little tweaking under the hood in over 5 years of development. At least they finally call it "Computer" and "Documents" rather than those stupid "My" prefixes on everything.

I updated the firmware for the router and now it seems to be working. Although It seems slower than usual.
    Thanks.

Vista does do some funky stuff with routers, it's changed some protocols and such unilaterally. Gotta love it.

    Hello Guys

I searched a lot and finally I found someone that has the same problem I do.
I just bought a Toshiba a135-s2276 and unfortunately it comes with Vista...
I still want to try it for a while...but the wireless (atheros AR5006x) finds my wireless network but cannot connect.

Does anyone have any possible solution for this?

Just as a remark I made a test, and installed XP and the wireless connection worked. So it is not a hardware problem.
    Thanks in advance.

Pretty much sounds like a non-working driver issue with Vista there. Perhaps with some searching on Toshiba's or other website you may find something that does work. Compatibility and working drivers are spotty at best right now for Vista though, so it may be a little while before they get around to yours.

Unfortunately I tried everywhere looking for any driver that could fix it, but the only place I heard anything similar to my problem was here...

So I hope someone finds out any driver that could fix my problem..
    :(

    Thanks anyway
