    HEL80 - Do I need a new video board?

So my HEL80 developed some strange vertical green lines on the display, even at boot; I took a quick picture:

(The text is very legible, it's just a REALLY shaky picture.)

When you get to a "DOS" prompt, the green lines go away, but different characters start blinking (i.e. in the word 'blinking' the 'l', 'ki', and 'g' will blink on and off, the others will be normal.

I don't think it's a LCD problem, as the lines/blinking text scale down with the image when it's not stretched to fill the screen.

I'm thinking my video card/board needs replacing; does anyone else have other ideas? Also, does anyone know where I might be able to buy a replacement board?

So any MXMII replacement will work? I don't mind the downgrade, I just thought that VGA boards weren't really interchangeable in laptops.

In 99% of laptops it's not possible; Compal's laptops with dedicated gpus happen to be in the 1% left :D . I didn't see that that the hel80 had a 7600... My 8600m GT is useless now that I upgraded to a HD3650. I guess I could flash it and sell it to you for a benjamin :D...

Thanks, but I just tore it apart and it doesn't like it's actually MXM. It's definitely a separate board, but its connections are different.

I think you're right. So, if anyone knows where I could find a replacement video board (new, used, whatever) let me know. I've been looking on Ebay, but the "parts" laptops all seem to have the same problem I've got. :(

Edited to add: It looks like "spiel_mit_feuer" was trying to sell a VGA board recently. Would someone with the ability to PM be willing to contact them for me? $gkhartman-gmail$

Unfortunately, I can't send (or receive?) PM's - and I think smf is in the same boat. My email is in my previous post, though, so maybe they'll see this thread and drop me a line.

I sent him a PM for you. If he's still around he should reply here.

Thanks for the help - hopefully they'll get the message. Until then, I'll just keep an eye on Ebay.
