I've had my HEL80 for a few years now, but just recently I noticed that the CPU usage has been from 30-40% all the time. Even just sitting on the desktop it does this. It basically never idles. As I type this post it's sitting at about 37% with just Firefox up.

Sitting at desktop, Realtemp reports 54C and 57C for the cores.

Any idea what the problem might be?

    Thanks in advance.

    What is your OS?

Why not check out task manager and see what causes the CPU cycles ...

In Vista and above you might to check the box that says "show processes from all users" or how it is called.

    Hope this helps!
