I know I had a thread about this way back, but I thought I'd make a different one.
Anyways I want to get a new HD for my hel80...for real this time I promise! So I looked into getting the new..ish..320gb wd..but After double checking the HEL80 specs it says up to 200gb on 3g/s or 250gb on 1.5g/s ... So I'm taking it that the mobo just wont support over 250 right? Would this work.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197 ?? or do i have to get..
    this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149058 3g/s 160gb

    or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152094 ata150 250gb

and then what is the speed difference... I kinda hate being down at 5400rpm..but I don't want to spend the exta $$$ on 7400, and whats the difference between the 3g/s and 1.5g/s ..by the numbers it looks double but I don't really see where in the spec sheets they're different.
    Thanks!!!
    -James

James, no manufacturer can tell you if any component that has not been tested will work. You will have to experiment if you want to try going to the 320GB WD drive, or anything beyond the certified and tested specs. The other two drives you link to should work just fine.

The difference between 5,400 RPM and 7,200 RPM could be substantial depending on what applications you are using. Unless you are doing something that moves a huge amount of data like multi-track audio editing, database compilation, or gaming to mention a few, you will not notice any substantial performance between the two.

The difference between SATA I and SATA II will be minimal for most users simply because laptops can not use the maximum data transfer rate of either one. The difference is definitely not double, or any where close to it.
