    Hey,
So just in the past couple days, my fps in all of my games has dropped drastically. TF2 is getting about 9fps at my regular settings that I usually maxed out 40-30 fps on. I've been running over clocked on my HEL80 with an Nvidia 7600go at like 480/365, so I freaked and thought maybe it was way over-heated. So i've put the clock speeds back to the default 350/350...still...
    I'm getting unbearable frame rates..but they're the same...as in 9fps and below.
So I checked GPU-Z and the Nvidia deal and it says im doing factory shipped..but its also saying my bus speeds are at 100/135..GPU-Z says the same... I have no clue what happened, I've reset all my driver settings (169.09 btw) to defaults and made sure PowerMizer wasn't on. Still, gross frame rates. Even in the screenshot below..I ran Garry's Mod at the lowest resolution and still only squeezed 15fps. Whats going on? Should I try other drivers? I'm not sure which ones to try and these ones haven't really given me any trouble until now..?

Anyways, thanks for the read. Help much appreciated.

What kind of temperatures do you have going on while playing? My hunch is that the cpu is throttling down to cool itself.

i usually get like 55c max. Does the core/bus have to do with the cpu? I thought it had to do with the GPU..? And i dont have any settings set like that that I know of.

I just know that when I was having problems with TF2 -- I'd be playing along fine, and then all of sudden the game turned into a slideshow (sub 10 frames-per-second), what turned out to be happening was: my cpu was downclocking from 2 GHz to 1 GHz, because the whole thing was getting too hot. This '55c max' you speak of, is that while you are in-game?

Yup, in game. Where can i manage my cpu's clocking? I thought that was only like 3rd party apps.

I am having this same issue. I reinstalled windows and it solved 0% of this problem.

Where can I get fan control for HEL80? NHC says it isn't configured for mine after I tried to enable it. Fkn keeps switching between 1.83 and 1.00 even at idle 45 C.

yeah man, theres somthing wrong with the GPU I think...however my laptop is kinda beat up..I dunno if powernotebooks will replace the gpu under warranty for me =S.
why would the cpu have anything to do with the gpu bus speed?
    and my temps are low...

I didn't say the CPU had anything to do with the GPU bus speed, besides your the one who brought up the subject of CPU's when you asked where you could manage your CPU's clocking...

Sorry if I confused everyone with my suspicion about cpu overheating.

    And, Halo200x, where'd you get that Hel80 for $400?!?

Ebay rofl. It was buy-it-now for $425 then I used ebays 10% off coupon. It's in perfect working order and even looks good, not much wear and tear at all it even came with a free, sturdy Dell laptop bag.

In your powersettings, make sure your power scheme is set to 'always on'. If you have it set on anything else, it may be down clocking the CPU.

Also, if you think your GPU is failing due to overheating or there is a system cooling problem in general, that is almost always a warranted repair. So long as you're still within your warranty period, it would be in your best interest to report your suspicions to your reseller.

    *** POTENTIAL SOLUTION ***

    Check your battery power profile.

I came accross this post while searching to a solution for this exact problem. I booted up TF2 the other day and couldn't even get +10fps at the lowest settings. While troubleshooting, I noted that RivaTuner was reporting my memory clock at 135. I went through many steps, and just before concluding that my laptop was now a brick, I decided to check one last thing. My power settings. A couple of days ago I was trying to squeeze more juice out of my machine while I was using it on a plane. I set it to 'power saver'. Apparently under Vista Ultimate with my drivers, this completely butchers your clock settings. Setting it back to high performance restored my desired clockspeeds. Problem solved; for me anyhow.

I know this topic a couple of months old, but I figured I would throw this up here in case anyone else had this problem.
